where you dropping, /v/?

if you wanna learn about any of the playable countries in the game, summon /his/fags ITT
Anonymous No.716306446 >>716309418 >>716316808
I will briefly samefag to drop explainers and country examples.

>what is EU5
A strategy game in which you can play any country on earth between the years 1337 and 1836.

The series is very popular for those who wish to play through "historical periods" like the colonisation of the new world, the French Revolution, various Chinese dynasties, and so on.

You can follow history, or change it; avert or curtail the Protestant Reformation, fight back the colonisers as the Aztecs, unite Ireland and invade England, restore the Byzantine Empire, and so on.
>paradox shills
Remember that most Paradox DLCs can be gained for free through various means, all of which are incredibly easy; cream api being the most popular at the moment. If you are paying for these expansions you are a retard, EU4 has hundreds of dollars worth.
>gameplay loop?
If you're a total stranger to these games, the "gameplay loop" depends on your nation. For example, if playing Portugal you'll be trying to explore the world and set up colonies/trade posts. If you're playing France, you'll have to focus a lot on diplomacy and administration to try unify your realm. If you're over in Japan, you'll need a strong military focus to unite the island and see off threats-and so on.

The games aren't half as hard as autists like to pretend; I would consider EU4 to be the most casual friendly of all Paradox games, and the widest in scope.

>tl;dr
Pick a country, play 500 years of its history.

A very popular question is
>what is this shitshow
Most of central Europe in 1337 was in what's called the "Holy Roman Empire."

It was a decentralised Empire which was ruled by a Holy Roman Emperor-with the Emperor being chosen by a group of electors. All those tiny little nations are playable, and many have serious potential. The Holy Roman Empire (HRE) has two main types of nations;
>HRE formables
>HRE unifiers
The "formables" are nations which can later reform into larger nations that may leave or even overtake the HRE. Examples are Holland/Brabant, which can later become the Netherlands, or Brendenburg, which can later become Prussia/Germany.

The unifiers are nations like Austria, who are based around maintaining their hold on the Imperial Crown and reforming the HRE to be a more traditional "unified realm." Since you probably won't be doing much colonising, your focus will instead be on diplomacy-and religion. When the Protestant reformation hits, the HRE will fall into religious conflict-which usually erupts into massive wars.

In our timeline, the HRE ended when Napoleon defeated Emperor Francis I at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805-leading to a chain reaction of events that resulted in its dissolution. Now, you can either save it-or destroy it even sooner.

Another very popular choice will be Byzantium.

In EU4, the start date was 1444; just 10 years prior to the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks. This time, you've an extra century to try get things back on track; saving Byzantium in EU4 was a hugely popular campaign, and it probably will be in EU5 too.

>why the hell is denmark is in lithuania
In the 1200s the Pope told the King of Denmark he could have as much land as he wanted in Estonia as part of the Livonian Crusade. Thus was born the "Duchy of Estonia", which was sold by Denmark about 10 years after the start date for EU5.

It's a very interesting time in Ireland in 1337. Still in the wake of the failed Bruce invasion, Ulster has been thrown into chaos with the death of William Donn de Burgh-splitting his lands between claimants. Fighting between the Burkes lost England immense influence in Ireland, while the O'Neills pushed to unify Ulster. Tyrone the based Irish OPM imo

I’ve got a specific type of autism where I like to be boxed against an ocean with lots of peninsula to expand into, and that whole region is effectively that. More importantly, I like games that let me mine for gold and gemstones, which SEA is famously abundant with.

It should be.

Germany didn't actually form until the late 1800s. The timeline for EU5 ends in 1836, aka just before the mass movements to unify Germany really stated to take off. Endgoal for Brandenburg for "history" in EU5 would be to form Prussia and make sure Napoleon eats it.

Playing it is enough to learn it. It sounds silly, but you start with basic shit like;
>okay, keep my money in the positives
So you hover over your balance, see what's costing you money, and find ways to lower those numbers-by building stuff, or by raising taxes, or by temporarily underfunding the army, etc.

Game tells you all need to know, the 9 hour youtube tutorials are usually a waste. Just get core mechanics down and you're fine, it's not that different to some 4X games. Just balancing mana; diplo/military/admin points are used for everything.

Funniest one for me is England's "Hugh O'Neill" event.

Hugh O'Neill was the leader of the Irish Alliance in Tyrone's Rebellion, a massive war that brought English rule in Ireland to the brink of collapse. There was involvement from Spain, and it was probably the closest at any stage in Irish history that the island came to independence from England.

The event in game is; spawn 5k rebels kek
