Any controller with a right anal stick is automatically trash. The steam controller is all you need.
>But the dpad
A correctly configured dpad is objectively better than any other dpad available. I played through super meat boy and shovel knight using haptics only touch and it offers way more control since you don't even have to depress the button. The hapics give you thumb the exact same info.
>but twin stick games
Just correctly configure the right trackpad to be an analog stick that starts wherever your thumb lands and use the haptics to feedback the intensity.

You know why console FPS for you? because right analog is inherently a BAD input for controlling a POV. This is completely fixed with a trackpad. Only shitters terrified of having their skill checked like right analog sticks.

Uuuhhh I'm gonna have to see someone using this dpad for a shmup or fighting game before I even consider this.

Are those four tiny nubs enough to tell where your thumb is on the d-pad? Looks even less tactile than an Elite dish and I accidentally hit diagonal all the time on that.

i didnt hate this but the steam deck is way better. touchpads for long term gaming sucks because of the friction. analogue sticks are way comfier.

The trackpad is arguably better, but you should be playing any game with a player-controlled camera on mouse and keyboard anyway.
> because right analog is inherently a BAD input for controlling a POV
Any input that is only actuated by your thumbs is bad for controlling a POV, it's why gyro is ultimately more important on the SC than the trackpad.

The Steam controller also isn't "on the market".

You're saying this because the game aims for you when playing with analog.

I agree, but unfortunately there are still brainlets that insist on playing games on a couch and TV and need to use a compromised input to play games.
>Any input that is only actuated by your thumbs is bad for controlling a POV,
A trackpad gets you 90% of the way there without requiring the game to aim for you.

No I'm saying this because they dont cause friction on your thumbs because its a smooth silicon and not a rough plastic surface. I actually totally agree with you that AIMING is better feeling on a steam controller (gyro > mouse touchpad > thumbstick) but the actual touchpad itself feels bad over long periods (short periods its totally fine).

Ironically sliding my thumb across a trackpad feels nicer than applying force to a stick for long periods of time
