I didn't even realise you could chunk jump after turf surf. I spent the whole game thinking chunk jump was kinda useless.

Why the fuck are we sharing review scores and hobby name with nintendo drones? They have their own isolated ecosystem , it's cute. But I am reading things like "BoTW is the best open world game" and "Paper Mario is in top 5 RPGs of all time" and have secondhand embarasment over the cringe

In my opinion yes. DKB has as many movement options in the air and more on the ground than SMO and also has destructible terrain. The transformations scratch the same itch as the captures, but you can use them anywhere. It's like all the content of SMO and then some.

For me yes. And I really loved Odyssey too. DK has the most ridiculously powerful moveset, maybe the strongest in any platformer, and it feels great.

I personally enjoyed it a bit more than odyssey. I think I only got like 10 hours out of odyssey when it came out but I managed to 30 hours out of bananza and when I was done with bananza I was sad there wasn't more to play (other than collecting every single banandium gem but I never go for 100% completion in platformers)

I don't blame you for not realizing, you have to manually dismount the turf surf before you can chunk jump which is a little tricky to get the hang of at first.

You end up having a lot of ways to gain height and snake double charge jump is insane. But spin jump into chunk jump is the highest you get outside of Bananza.

There's something about the colors in this game that I find so ugly. I'm not sure what it is. I thought it was people using HDR incorrectly on Switch 2, but that's not it. It's as if the colors are "wrong", I don't know.

It's one of those games that is a prime candidate for a future romhack of sorts.
Tight controls, potential for advanced movements but the game itself was balanced for babies.

I like progression not being tied to moons like in Odyssey and swapping between the bananzas has been more fun for me than most of the single function captures. But even though I love K.Rool, I still think Odyssey had the cooler climax. Overall, I'd probably play through Bananza again before Odyssey.

It's disappointing- the game isn't bad. It's just too similar to mario odyssey.
I kept trying to say that Nintendo's willingness to recycle content was worrying back with TOTK (not that it mattered, since for the first 2 years post release any criticism just caused a ERIC TRANNY dogpile).

They clearly have talent still. Mario Odyssey/Bananza and BOTW/TOTK are all great games. But the market keeps rewarding them for creating more of the same instead of innovating.

It's exactly why pokemon is so dogshit to this very day. It's fine now, but will it be fine in 10 years when we're playing botw-like 4 and Bananza-threeie?

It's held back a little bit by the lack of unique backing characters -- the different animals (zebra, ostrich, snake) got old by the time you had to backtrack to the second/third zone, and the rock guys were old after the first zone. DK has cooler platforming but you use it less frequently.

I'm definitely overthinking things but I've been a little torn between fun vs. how good the actual game is. I think the terrain destruction is so satisfying that it's a little blinding to the flaws of the game. They give you way too many techniques to trivialize the platforming on top of there actually being very little intentional platforming challenge in general. The worlds themselves are really simple "Platforms in Space" style again because everything needs to be destructible. This means even the hubs are just the same three shops and NPCs standing around doing nothing. The boss fights don't require any kind of strategy and are generally solved by going Kong Bananza and mashing. Speaking of which, the Bananza transformations feel poorly thought out because you'll be in Kong for 90% of the game other than hyper specific gimmicks maybe once per level that require Ostrich or Zebra (and could probably be solved by a chunk jump anyway). The collectibles are way too easy and unrewarding to find because of sonar and maps, I think this could have been solved by just revealing the names of the Bananas on the collection page as a hint to search by rather than the current format where you're kinda just flailing through the level destroying shit until you ping a fossil or banana. Handful of other issues but all just comes down to it feeling a little tech demo-y but it feels so good to play it has me wondering if maybe the fun factor is enough? Honestly reminds me a lot of Botw/Totk in that they're half baked games carried by a central mechanical gimmick but where I bounced off Zelda because it was slow and lifeless, DK is so snappy and satisfying it keeps me playing.

Well the bananas follow a certain order. So let's say you have banana 3 and 5 and you're missing 4, it's easier to guess where it is because it's in-between those other two. That alone made it much easier for me to guess where the missing bananas where, even without sonar.

Yeah Ive definitely used the holes in the log to guesstimate where the banana I'm missing is and it's probably the most fun I have collecting. I think it's also partially the Odyssey problem where 70+ of your core collectible per level just deflates the value and significance of finding it. They're everywhere and so it never feels special to find them and becomes more chore like where there are actually some cleverly placed ones here and there that would be fun to discover if it was like 1 of 10.
