Well by that point the robots were basically capable of self reproduction via robotic wombs and robotic semen and weren't even called robots but rather "carbons" so they probably need clothes since they probably aren't born with them which implies they have the capacity to remove them and do so to clean themselves. This is true, but he was still at one point, a baby and grew up. We don't know how different the purifier units are to the Carbon/Decoy. They could be made off the same base line, since the basic tech that Roll develops, which is made with plans that Carbon use to develop their limb enhancements, still works for him.
