I pre-ordered the FF6 and FF14 precons the moment they were announced because those two are the best in the series. I've been a fan of the series for decades but haven't played Magic in over 15 years. Both decks are surprisingly fun, especially Terra's deck. Not having any friends (that play Magic or otherwise) has caused me to go to one of my local game stores every weekend to play their organized Commander games. I'm having fun. I'm going to go to their pre-release tournament for the new set this weekend, even though I won't be playing my FF cards, looking forward to it.

You lack reading comprehension and understand of the dynamics behind player retention, FF didn't bring new players, it's a set for scalpers and collectors, also talking about legality is pointless, cards are legal forever in modern, legacy, vintange, pauper, pioneer and commander and only that last format saw an increase in players, which isn't surprising since it's borderline kitchen-table and large amount of legionaries meant the set was designed around it, still these aren't the players that will go around buying your product and paying to play in events.

I have never bought a UB card and it honestly makes me stingier about in-universe sets too. I bought so much Bloomburrow because it felt like real Magic after OTJ, but this year I've only bought a couple packs of Tarkir because I've gotten in the habit of not buying Magic.

I would have thrown money as Wizards hand over fist if they were faithful to LotR instead of bastardizing it with Chinese Legolas, Black Rohirrim, Black Aragorn, Black Gandalf and Galadriel, and plenty more. Plus, quite literally every other Universes beyond magic the gathering set has been faithful to the IP its adapting.
Fallout, Warhammer, and especially Final Fantasy.
I do think Square is especially protective of its IP, but that only further reinforces my point I guess.
Final Fantasy was fantastically and faithfully adapted, which I think is actually part of the reason it shit all over Lord of the Rings in sales too.

I don't think it will do as well as FF, but I don't think its going to flop by any means.
FF got people on a Magic high, and it was preceded by a faithful in universe set that was decently well liked and followed up by a very unique and well done in universe set that people seem to really love, despite it breaking away from the "usual" in universe magic settings.
So unfortunately I think the Marvel slop will do well.
Its kind of a shame for magic itself that FF got a lot of people into it, in part because the set also feels very "fantasy" in a way thats a lot closer to traditional Magic than their recent stuff, but only for it to be followed up by increasing fortnitification and extremely modern dumbass shit like Spiderman and "spiderverse"

It brought me back, and I haven't played since I was a kid. I've had a lot of fun playing it again. But I have 0 interest in the spiderman "modern day" stuff or continued "Fortnite" sets they are doing. Its actively a turn off for me actually. Seeing Spiderman next to Cloud or some elves just doesn't sit right with me, and as much as I may have contributed to the issue myself a little with buying some FF, I see and understand why classic fans are really bothered by the universes beyond stuff. Makes me wonder if them going all in will be a long term benefit or a short term gain for a longterm loss.

I played mtg until the crossover slop spelled the imminent rugpull and that they were cashing out. Had a guy I know who shit talked me spending a sum total of 140 or so dollars on my decks, and ive never once bought or opened a booster pack. Shit talked the game as being lame and stupid.
