Yeah, I feel the same. Gacha is inherently garbage, but I feel like this is one of the only games that got it right (phrasing this very loosely). It really was one of a kind, I've never played such a game before or since that had this level of charm. Yes. It felt kind of empty, but that's what happens when you have 20 characters instead of 10, and do everything yourself except sprites. And have the entire second half of the game just be the same six characters slapfighting each other. It's all replacements, I'm redoing every visual asset from scratch and making a couple songs for it.

It picks apart the data file and loads its own. It's surprisingly versatile, people have redone bullet patterns to make entire new games. Or you can do what I did and turn everything into spaghetti.

I really liked the stories too. Orks were pretty intriguing because they were less developed as a society than the other races but still had to deal with the same problems as everyone else. Demons, golems, power struggles, interracial conflict, the works. My favorite storylines were the dwarf and gessy, crazy shit going on there.
All of the character designs are good, not just Pitsch. Going through my fanart folder is giving me some really bittersweet feelings. I'd go back if they brought the servers up.

After a few months I ended up not using it and the currency accumulated to the point where it was actually impossible to spend it all. There were also those gold discounts for upgrades and evolution and stuff, but that doesn't matter when you have 20k large gold bars sitting there collecting dust.

Yeah, I do remember a few highlight fights that I struggled with but felt SO GOOD when I finally got them like the ninja fight on the way to hotspring town (for which I actually had to bust out Fholk of all characters) or the mammoth fight that may as well have been a puzzle game. I feel bad for not having any trouble with that fight. The real shit was that one with Astos, where every enemy was immune to provoke and one would charge straight at the Caravan in 10 seconds unless you had someone to move them away from it. Also anything involving Harrison, that guy was a dick. Seeing Reaumur blow his head clean off with a rifle was so satisfying. I also didn't have trouble with the mammoth fight because I started playing during an event and got one of those big fire lizards, Salamandrine I think? Its burn damage was crazy compared to the chip damage everyone else was doing. Fuck man I miss this world so much.

Yeah honestly as fun as this game was, it was equally frustrating at times. If you could just set it so one or two party members stayed put no matter what or didn't use their skills at all, that would have been lovely.
