MMO
Imagine an MMO with graphics/presentation similar to Dwarf Fortress and UnReal World.Tile-based. Imagine a huge island continent. Right side is filled with npc villages and primitive civilization, plenty of food and mild winters. Left side has no npc villages, wilder animals, more dangers but also more rewards. 'Red' players will set up their bases there. Red = Players that are more aggressive, kill, destroy, harass etc. Green players, the more peaceful and pve-focused ones, will mainly inhabit the right side. Reds and greens are natural enemies. No currency, trading of items instead. Iron-age feeling with low magic. No levels. Perma-death. Need for food and water. Seasons.

This game is being created right now. I avoid giving more info on purpose.

Feel free to give more ideas! Something youd maybe like to see in such a game.

I am indeed a retarded white dork, but chances are my peepee is bigger than yours. Id also like to add that it has core differences with Rust, splitting the players into defined teams, offering different paths like hunter, farmer, trader, monk/mage etc based on players prefered gameplay.

Games like this already exist, im just making it an online experience. Unfortunately i cant describe it in more detail or upload screenshots.

The reason no one has made that game is because people really, really, REALLY don't like tile based multiplayer games. And if you have anything near ASCII graphics? Forget about it.

Adding no levels, permadeath, and survival mechanics? You have 0 playerbase, not even (you) the developer wants to play it

Nigga, your average Rust PvP server has defined teams. All you’re doing is making Rust but giving players classes and one side more resources. It’s retarded as shit. What happens to the combat proficiency of a group when one side just wants to play farmers? It’s unbalanced and retarded as shit. Go back to playing Fortnite, you retarded child

You're not wrong! Yet i started making it because id certainly want to play such game, so theres that. I could always take it to a different direction in the future, but this isnt about money, so we'll see.

you are retarded
how has every sandbox """dev""" ever not learned from wildy?
pve'rs vs pvp'rs will literally never create an engaging environment

What advantages do Green players have? What's stopping them from invading Red territory?

Nothing stops Greens from invading Reds, and vice versa. Greens please the 'good' spirits, while reds make relations with the 'bad' ones. Spirits are tied to forests/regions. Greens can interact with npcs and live in their villages, while reds are being shot by them on sight- thats the main difference. Reds are the chaotic baddies, while greens are 'moral'. Basically greens are more in tune with nature and have buffs in 'good' forests. Reds have their own buffs in corrupted territories. Hope i gave you a general idea

With sandbox MMORPGs you really need to pick a side. Is it a PvP sandbox or a PvE sandbox?
PvE players don't want to deal with PvP.
Anonymous No.716367971 >>716368532

But how do they interact?
Anonymous No.716368276
I'm always up for more sandbox MMORPGs that allow me to build a house in the open world. Keep us posted, OP.

>>716367675
Yes, i understand, but the goal here is to make a game where there is diversity in game styles. Naturally, in this game, pve-focused players will stick to the safest regions, protected by npcs etc. The map is made in such way that there is room for everyone. There will be a narrow piece of land connecting east and west, a choke-point, where pvp is to be expected. PvE players would mostly be green

>>716367971
How do Greens interact with npcs? Trading with them, you can hire an npc to hunt with you for example, they allow for players to set up posts in their bulletin boards, provide shelter, there is an auction house, a library etc. npcs also offer knowledge when you chat with them, depending on your standing with them and what tasks you have completed for them

I've always wanted an MMO which said, fuck graphics, but used that sacrifice to enhance depth, mechanics and interactivity. Not sure if your idea is it OP, but on the right track.
Anonymous No.716370389 >>716371031
>>716369871
They don't do this because graphics is not the constraint ( other than monetarily ).
Having deep AI and mechanics means the server is spending cycles on computation instead of network requests. And Networking is that most intensive part of the MMO as far as the computer is concerned.

So if you tried to make a mechanically deep game, all you're doing is dwarfing the maximum server limit. The graphics are only on the client, so it's irrelevant.

for everything except npc part
I think
>Salem(same devs, same game, different setting)
had npc town if you're hellbent on that

Very good point. It's a shame as I think a truly deep MMO would have real staying power, but I think you're right in stating its still more or less a tech problem. That said, modern technology, hardware, is so, so much more powerful than it was decades ago when initial MMOs were created. I bet something more could be done, you'd just need good software engineers working on it... But why would they do that instead of working in finance, AI, or some other big tech company.
