Why did old TVs and computer monitors have built-in CRT filters and new ones don't?

Older TVs had better hardware because they were bigger and had more room for ventilation. Same principle as a gamer PC. Now that they slimmed them down they had to dumb down the hardware and they can't run such advanced filters.
