Does anyone feel like Mortal Kombat has gone too far with the violence?
I do NOT mean legally or anything. I fully support freedom of artistic expression as much as humanly possible and I do not think it should be censored or changed because of my opinions.
However, I also just think it is weird how sadistic, gorey, and disgusting the games have gotten. What I think is strangest is how they have deemphasized any sexuality in favor of more intense blood and guts. Why is it that Sonya having a generous amount of cleavage is cause for backlash, but Sonya having her jaw ripped off, her tongue hanging from her mouth, her limbs ripped off, and then being burned alive while she screams to death is hilarious, fun, and cause for youtube compilations?

I've probably just become a huge pussy as I've gotten older, but if I were concerned about what my kids were seeing I think Sonya's tits are a lot less harmful then this pretty horrific violence.

We were all for guys just massacring waves of other men for decades in media so gore and shit is just normal now but we haven't seen like a bunch of naked women in media until relatively recently. I'm the same way. I loved the fatalities as a teenager but now I can't even perform them on characters I hate. The ultra realistic dismemberment coupled with the horrible screaming just gets under my skin. They're so protracted as well. It used to be 'punch their head off and pose'. Now it's "rip their arms off, rip their legs off, stomp a hole in their stomach, then stomp their head into paste while the victim screams in agony. Unironically I sympathize with the developers feeling mentally fucked up working on them.

I think Bethesda's StarField was severely lacking violence. No gore. No dismemberment. Just average gunplay with very very boring mechanics.

I liked it in the beginning with how they displayed certain morbid acts with just a bit of blood, bones, whatever with only a few pixels. It certainly has lost all charm for me personally with how gratuitous the guts and gore is. I'll watch every fatality for context when a new game or dlc pack comes out but that's about it for me. I can see the appeal for some, edgy as it might be. I'm just never going to be hooked by the body horror they keep putting out again and again. For context, I've played them all up until MK 10 with Deception being my favorite due to the goofiness from Konquest mode.

I don't want MK to get banned, and I actually think it should be unbanned in Japan and people should be able to monetize it on youtube, but it certainly makes me not want to play the games personally.

It was perfectly fine with the earlier fidelity where they were just spewing out pixelated blood and bones, the karens complaining about it then really were delusional.
then it got a lot more realistic and maybe I could understand finding it a bit much, but personally it was w/e

but when they started having the modeled internals, doing xrays for how fucked up they are getting, trying to maximize the realism, personally I thought it was too far, and this was quite a few games ago.
Found the games kind of disgusting from that point and really had no interest in them from that point.

Oh, also, OP here: For what its worth I actually do think that Starfield needed some gore and blood to add impact to the combat. I am not against all blood and gore (or any, really), it is more just the combination of sadomasochism + reduction in sexuality combined, as if it is sending the message that hardcore violence is somehow better or more acceptable than some tits.

To add to my previous post, those sliders and censoring the "I don't want to die difficulty" was absolutely microsofts doing so gore censorship doesn't seem to be far fetched. Also they probably forced them to make thira man faced because all the concept art for her looks waaaay for feminine than what ended up in the game.

I've very rarely find myself disturbed by MK fatalities because the way characters get killed off are so fucking absurd or creative that I get more of a laugh out of them than anything.
Even the ones that aren't played for laughs have crazy shit like characters casually having their jaws ripped off or getting torn in half as if that's something feasible for a human being to do.

Too far makes it sound like I'm offended. When in reality it's too far in that I can only see someone get their face pulled apart about 47 different ways before it just becomes boring and I want to skip past it.

Haven't really looked at a MK game in years. Yes, they are quite over the top. FPS games that advertised violence like Soldier of Fortune I and II were never really followed up on and seem to have died off as a sub-genre within FPS. There are still the 3rd person games like Tomb Raider and Dead Space that have all the over-the-top player deaths. Not sure what the first game to start doing would've been, but it seems odd. I wonder why Battlefield and COD and some of the super popular games don't have much in the way of blood? They seem to have traded blood/gore for tons of cursing....games never used to have cursing, except Kingpin Life of Crime.
