Hate it. I replay the entire mainline series when a new release come out and sometimes just replay them at random and I always skip RE6. I'll start with Leon or Ada (for Ada ass and Deborah booba thinking it will hold my interest) and I drop it by like Part 2 or 3. Ada's sub level is pretty cool though.

Execution is what matters. You can have roughly the same concept, controls, and mechanics and still be significantly worse by fucking up the actual design of the game.

I have played the game on all difficulties, with friends. All campaigns 6 times. The game has serious flaws and is basically a wild ride you can't take seriously because the tone shift the series was at the time was un-salvageable.

Mechanically the game is great, player wise. With a fun TPS melee and gun system, getting good at the game feels rewarding for player skill. Its horde mode is where this shines the most where you get to play the combat unhindered. It also helps that the combat system has some simple rewards in the animations per direction, per character. But the designs of the enemies are anti-fun, with bullet sponges, invincibility frames and dedicated special zombies that did not add to encounters as much as take away from them. They don't ruin the combat, but it does make it drag sometimes, which wouldn't be an issue, if the design of the game itself wasn't a sin.

The game design itself, from the frustrating set pieces, annoying encounters and generally poor design all round. It clearly wanted to sell itself as a mix of horror and action, but then fails at both, leaving a frustrating mess. I never want to play the levels again unless it's with a friend. Because having a friend and both of you dealing with the frustrations, and the various set pieces leading to shared hatred, is a gift only RE6 can give.

I would definitely want Capcom to revisit this combat in some other game in the future, but due to the reception, both this timeline, and by proxy the combat, will forever be left in the shadow of the more popular horror games that came after.

Capcom realizing they fucked up and killed Wesker off one game too early and were throwing shit at the wall in desperation to start some sort of new chapter. 6 should have been the surviving originals against Wesker. Instead Jill stands on the sidelines while Chris and Sheva take Wesker down in 6, and there's no Jill, Claire, Rebecca or Barry in 6 with a fake enemy, 'Nu-Umbrella' that never actually existed beyond NotAda and her gang of goons. 6 was just the devs gooning to their waifu, Ada, by making a game that literally revolves around her which unsurprisingly turned out to be crap because Ada is a shitty character that has vastly overstayed her welcome.

Not as bad as RE5 - it does have some cool ideas of its own like the gun kata mechanics or multiple interlocking campaigns ,and in trying to be all of RE, it occasionally settles into semi-good RE. That said, the thing is way too cinematic and schizophrenic as a whole, and for every good idea it has it has half a dozen bafflingly awful ones. A small diamond lost in its own sea of shit.

Started playing it a few days. Chose to do Chris' campaign on the hardest difficulty. Died a bunch of times on the first level because the controls are difficult to adjust to and the camera is not the greatest. On the next level I kept thinking about how this game is an even bigger pile of shit than I thought it would be. I think I might forgo finishing that campaign and give the other ones a try.

In terms of quality I felt it was Leon > Ada > Sherry > Chris. Chris' campaign, although it had the weakest story got me emotionally at the end, its the only thing I enjoyed about it. But if you decide to play another one, save Ada's for last, there's a reason why it was locked behind the other three campaigns at launch.

Too many boring stretches where you're doing chores instead of shooting BOWs. Too many scripted driving QTE cinematic chase scenes. Too many repeated boss fights because of the crossover chapters that became pointless after the online play died off. The Ada Wong chapter sucked ass, and the Agent was so hastily shoehorned in that he couldn't even open doors on his own. Removing inventory management was a mistake. So was removing weapon upgrades. The combat system was interesting at first but it also encouraged the devs to fill 80% of the missions with enemies that shoot bullets at you. The lack of costumes in campaign mode was disappointing. There's probably more but that's what immediately comes to my mind.

Yep, good post. This goes hand in hand with the fact that the weapons sound like shit and have very little player feedback. Enemies are overpowered and your weapons are not satisfying to use. It's the opposite of RE4's school of design. RE5 was already leaning in this direction but 6 sealed it. Even the desert eagle feels like a water gun.

i was with you up until this part, resident evil has had completely retarded story for quite some time and at this point the story doesnt even matter anymore its better to ignore it. the final nail in the coffin that CAPCOM obviously doesnt care, was that giant coomer lady vampire in whatever RE game game out a while ago. (never played it) they just did that to sell more copies. there is no sense of artistic integrity anymore or some kind of unique vision. the most fun i had with resident evil since RE4 was RE revelations 2 raid mode and i only played that exclusively i never finished a single chapter of the game. any game beyond re4 as far as im concerned doesnt even matter and isnt canon.
