No worries. Also might recommend Betterman, it's a spin-off of GaoGaiGar but as far as I could tell you don't need knowledge of that to enjoy it. Sort of a pseudo horror shonen mecha show. Right on the cusp of 90s/00s anime so a nostalgic feel to it.

Seeing this game in motion back in 1999 blew my mind away. It is one of the better looking N64 games, they did some wizardry with those 3D models, the lighting and the whole atmosphere. Somehow, the later games, despite having more advanced graphics, didn't quite get the same atmosphere. Eva 64 feels just like you're playing a TV episode.

I played SRW F/F final and while not completely Eva-centered, you have Nerv allied with Londo Bell and theres angel attack missions (Sachiel, Shamshel and Gaghiel, IIRC just those three) and has Kaworu as a secret final boss pilotong Eva-03 for some reason, but I didn't get that secret ending, gotta replay it some time.

Been playing SRW Alpha 1 recently, and I heard it got one of the best Evan scenario plot lines, especially with Alpha 3. There's even a secret dialogue path for A1 if you have Shinji do some actions. Also, I've been using a mix of retroarch/ztranslation and Lunatranstlor for the game, I understand what's going on, which is nice.

I think this is the problem, the monster fights are for the large part unique challenges and also kind of secondary to the emotional drama. You couldn't really make an Evangelion game that's just a straightforward mecha action.
I mean you could make a Destroy All Monsters style brawler if you didn't care too much about keeping it story focused.

I wouldn't mind a goofier Eva brawler. There's enough regular style fighters to have a good roster, though you'd have to fluff stuff like Jet Alone being able to penetrate an AT field.
Plus you could do the thing I want, which is have Rei and Asuka and Misato as selectable characters, and just have them be giant versions of themselves.

i don't think you can do a direct adaptation with "real" gameplay, i mean not a walking/dating simulator or something. the angels are terrible enemies for a shooter because they come rarely and usually one at a time. your best bet would be a new IP that captures the feel of eva, sort of like how deus ex human revolution feels like ghost in the shell but isn't. a stealth shooter like that where you're a depressed guy who fights shady organization troops, visits a hub area and base with support characters, and sometimes gets attacked by otherworldly beings too, doesn't sound half bad.
