Ellie is a happy go lucky retard now, which is enhanced by her actress', uh, exceptionalism. Dina's pregnancy reveal in the game is treated as a serious moment where Ellie more or less freaks out at her for not saying anything until they were in the Seattle warzone. In the show it's presented as a whimsical event where Ellie is giddy and says "I'm gonna be a dad" like a retard. I cannot overstate this enough: they made the story WORSE.
