I might have gotten it from sale, but got turned off by how sanitized being an "outlaw" seemed and how restricted interacting with the open world seemed.
Also the protagonist should have been hotter.

Literally Disney policy. Also the reason why 1313 was so difficult to conceptualize. The devs wanted to go full-M with the whole "bounty hunter in the hive of scum and villainy" theme but Disney wants to keep the brand T so no mature themes, no graphic violence, good guys are good and bad guys are bad. No ambiguity.

Did they do zero focus testing when choosing and designing their protagonist?

Disney really was the worst company that could have bought Star Wars.

God knows what even went wrong, the mocap actress is kinda hot

whats weirdest to me is that they still could have gotten their political good boi points just from basing the character off the actress. shes a brown latina. a hot one, but still brown. is that on its own not good enough anymore? why did they have to go out of their way to make her ugly, too?

It feels like corporations these days think that they can just skip market research as a whole and just trust on likes on xitter.

I suppose they really believe that the lack of "relatable" female characters has been preventing millions of women from buying AAA action video games.

Don't make female protagonists if you're not designing them to be attractive to the target demographic and core consumer of videogames. If a guy doesn't want to marry your heroine and have kids with her then she has a terrible presentation. Point blank period.

everything star wars should be cancelled and put on ice indefinitely just like they did with indiana jones after the movie flopped

I got it gifted when it was dirt cheap on sale after DLC and patches to fix the release state. Honestly it's not an awful game. It's a 6/10. It had some good high points and design concepts but it's execution was overall shallow. If they had cooked it longer, it might have resonated a lot more.

They should have implemented a character creator instead of Kay. She's not a bad character on paper (as in, she's quite heavily flawed if you pay attention and not a Mary Sue) but still, they could have worked in those ideas through character creation. It also needed more depth to every gameplay system. Just a little more but then again, the foundation was pretty solid. The way the game handles upgrading your gear and worldbuilding is top notch though, it deserves credit for that. The story had a lot of Saturday morning cartoon vibes, they should have gone the Andor route instead with more grit and hairy balls. Obviously disney sanitation at work.
Oh and you can fly around and enter building without loading screens (only a short hidden one, disguised as going through clouds as you enter the atmosphere) so it completely mogs Starfield in that sense, not that it's a high bar to reach.
