Its actually the opposite when I can't even see my character I no longer care what it looks like as well as first person being HIGHLY limiting on what can be done in combat and animation.

First person is actually just bad for everything except pvp shooters because its necessary to prevent 100% safe peeking.

A boring game is the least immersed you can be.
