I don't get why the individual websites are the ones saddled with the responsibilty to require ID verification anyway. Why isn't that done through your ISP? It would only require a single verification through the company providing the connection in the first place, and they already have most of that information anyway since you're paying them.

Because the government and lazy parents decided that watching after children is the responsibility of the state, not the parents.

I mean, like, logistically it would be far more efficient to censor the ENTIRE INTERNET in affected regions outside of a specific whitelist, then require you verify your ID to the service provider who then allows your devices to connect to the wider internet freely, right? I mean, I know the intent is to inconvenience the sites they don't like into blocking everyone or otherwise shutting down. It was always about control. But did no one even suggest blocking the connection in the first place?

They need a symbolic way for them to not be blocked so it isn't officially a ban.

Its simple, the ISPs keep telling them fuck off can't (won't) do it, also the largest ISP in the country is state owned.

It becomes a lot easier to blackmail someone should the need arise if you have hard data on exactly what kind of embarrassing shit they've done beyond a shadow of a doubt since their personal ID is attached directly too it, rather than having to piece it together with user sign-in and cookies, which are a lot more flimsy.

The easiset and most logical thing is that people with children (and snowflakes) just automatically get the snowflake internet. The ISP just has to crosscheck with the goverment if the units have offspring. If not -> real internet, otherwise tardnet.

I finished my modded skyrim project last year, got all the achievements then deleted it since it took up 500 gb. Maybe I could set a size limit for myself this time so I don't have just a Skyrim machine but have a nice looking game.

Easier to make ISPs just verify your age to even make use the internet, and then websites are blacklisted from there or not.

MY faggot ISP tries to block a bunch of websites by pretenting their security certificates expired.
you can just change your DNS setting to get around that so that's much easier than having to deal with than website trying to ID you.
