Depends on your values. In terms of presentation and setpiece gimmicks TP is arguably the peak of Zelda, and its dungeons in particular feel really good to work through in the moment. That said, it's not really a Zelda for those who want unfettered exploration, it's much better at sticking to its story beats. OoT is a game that's less focused on handcrafting moments, but in return is quite a bit more hands-off with its game design as a whole. It's a bit more jack-of-all-trades whereas TP picks a path and mostly sticks to it. OoT has something for everyone, but if you don't like what TP fixates on then you'll probably hate it.

The main problem with TP is the slow start, SS has an even worse start and i seriously don't care about any of the characters

I actually like most Zelda games. 2D, 3D, I don't care if it's Oracle of Ages, Tears of the Kingdom or MM.
Only Skyward Sword is the only one I'd never replay but other than that I replay all of them from time to time.

IMO TP has better exploration as well, with cooler content. While in OoT you might find a single room grotto, in TP there's whole cave systems or otherwise more interesting locations and puzzles. Like that one spot that takes you back to the inaccessible part of Goron mines.

"Whole cave systems" is a stretch but a definite point in TP's favor is being the only 3D Zelda with lantern caves. I wish there were whole systems instead of like 3 or 4 moderately lengthy ones because fuck yeah lantern caves. I would play a cave spelunking Zelda where you just fuck off for an hour or two doing pic related.

I think that they'll just release it on nso like wind waker which I'd personally prefer, I have the theory that implementing miiverse features in these two very old games was a pain in the ass and that they've haven't been able to come up with a replacement for the tingle bottle and stamps which is why they're some of the only games that never got a switch port.

I'm not a fan of hero mode myself, having to stop what you're doing just to go buy a potion or something is just tedious to me, I'd rather have rarer hearts and smarter more aggressive enemies, Link always having his shield up while using lock on was a mistake, his stance is also rarely ever broken and there's usually no follow up attack when it does happen.

It has some of the most fun gameplay in the series to me, but it's genuinely annoying how much it makes you repeat the same stuff and go back to the same places, it was so bad it convinced people that the formula was dated and needed to be completely replaced which is why we've ended up with games that have almost nothing in common with the games before them.

I think the heart system is inherently broken. There's almost no point in investing in potions when item drops are as plentiful as they are, to say nothing of how much leeway you have if you ever remember that bottles exist. I'm for more aggressive enemies but no hearts and double damage has shown to me time and again that this should just be Zelda's default difficulty and not "hard mode".

well the thing is the combat in 3d zeldas is very simple so even if you pump up the damage, there's not many ways to make it work well. Imagine the pair of stalfos from ocarina being extremely aggressive and the both of them attacking you at once from different sides. How would you even handle it? Spam din's fire?

Movement and spacing? The lock-on system is clearly designed for one-on-one combat but Link still has a shield, pretty good maneuverability and a jump attack to quickly close in, nevermind stuff like WW's parries or TP's hidden skills. And that's just swordplay, you can also design combat around his whole arsenal, there's a lot of flexibility.

One of my favorite combat rooms in Zelda is the one in Snowpeak Ruins where you have to kill like 7 of the ice giant dudes. It completely breaks the rules of one-on-one because they throw ice spears at you every 3 seconds but a bit of good mobility will get you out of that room alive, and the ball-and-chain one shots them if you can get a hit in.

Zelda has always been primarily about the dungeons and puzzles for me. The piss-easy combat was only there to give your brain a break.
But now in the new ones all the puzzles are relegated to these shitty little shrines sprinkled everywhere, and in TOTK all the puzzles in the few dungeons the game actually does have can just be circumvented by flying over everything.
I don't give a shit about exploring a gigantic empty open world. I want a linear game with a linear story that builds up in difficulty in a satisfying way. Like they fucking used to be. Is that so much to ask?

>IMO TP has better exploration as well, with cooler content.
TP's map is on rail, with not really much more to it except to go to A for the quest A, then go to B for the quest B, then C for C, etc. It has precious few content to explore beyond that: Kakariko, the Cave of Ordeals, and three other cool secret heart pieces, more or less.

OoT, a game on a 4MB cartridge made in a cave with a bunch of scraps, has far more secrets, secret caves, secret interactions, interactions with NPC, and is less linear than TP. It did so 10 years earlier with a map 1/48th the size of TP.

TP has plenty of very cool, very cinematic moments. The best Zelda princess of the series. Some very good dungeons. A decent story. But there is a reason everyone says TP is linear and lack secrets.

You can destroy wood signs with your sword, you can then repair them with the right song, the right song will make cows produce milk, masks change how NPCs react to you, there are like 5 different secrets interactions with Sheika stones, butterflies that touch your deku sticks become fairies, the absurd number of caves under many rocks or even under nothing at all, some having merchants

The secret deku theater, half of the lost woods interactions (including the target), the flying flowers from the magic beans that sometimes open new paths, half of OoT heart pieces location and/or mechanics to reach them, etc.

In OoT you can't make one step without falling on a secret. In TP you mostly follow the story on rails, with set pieces map, and if you're lucky if one (1) secret is somewhere on that map. It's not that bad, it's different.

WW managed to keep a mostly level number of secrets with OoT and MM, though on a far lesser density due to its ocean. It's a bit weird going from OoT, MM, and WW, to TP.

TP has its share of weird interactions - try going into the inn in Kakariko and attacking some of the furniture as a wolf, throwing the Gale Boomerang at golden bugs (and realizing how much of that quest you can break doing this), or play fetch with the dog outside of the STAR game tent in Hyrule Market. In fact, I'd say one of the best designed secrets in franchise history comes in the form of Rollgoal - you can easily beat the game without ever stumbling upon it, and yet it's a whole ass minigame that you can drop hours on.

>Wii motion plus controller
Nta, but I found one of those with a nunchuk in a baggie at Goodwill for $6. They really are way better. My original Wiimotes all make it look like I have palsy, but the motion plus is dead-on and stable as muh dick.

It's really quite fun, and there aren't many games where you get a similar experience. The few dueling bossfights were highlights. I remember I made short work of a pirate by bypassing his defences by performing thrusts. Iirc spider needed an upward strike and then downward stab. Cool shit. And the beetle was fun to control too.

TotK gave me that feeling when I explored the underground between Hyrule Castle and Lookout Landing. Just coming across that was fuckin' sweet.
