>mediocre kart racing game thats open-world, has little good content and post game support, no love put into it, a low skill ceiling and a bad roster on an overpriced consoIe sells over 50 million copies
>6 years earlier a beloved kart-racing game with love for the fans, a high-skill ceiling, developers that care with over 9 months of free content, a remake of two games, with characters the fans know and love sells far less despite being the much better game on an objective level
How does that work exactly?
MKW has more gameplay than loading screens.

Crash was always a mediocre “try to copy Nintendo” experiment. Also the nd devs thought they invented variable height jumping in platformers.

Mario is sadly a bigger IP and its easily accessible to children and manchildren. CTR both the original and remake will always be more soulful than every MK entry put together and for that reason alone it is forgotten. Its the skillful kart racer gamers deserve, but not the one they need right now.

CTR had that gay timed shop instead of just letting you unlock shit, so it's a worse game on that alone.

Are there things that are permanently gone now? Like if I got the game today, could I still get everything?

Ok, that's good. Are there still people playing on the Switch? I missed out on the game when it came out but I kind of want to give it a try now.

No, there's some stuff you can't unlock anymore. But tbf it is mostly promotional stuff like the Sour Patch Kids car and parts.

Everything but the Xfinity kart and Sour Patch Kids parts, since they were a part of real life promotions.
>see ctr thread on twitter
>nintodlers who never played it are making shit up about and patting each on the back
how does a video game console spawn a cult like this?

This is why emulation is superior amongst other things. I set it so the pit stop content is unlocked by default, but I can still unlock everything else by playing the game.

I feel like they are basically two different genres. Mariokart is a fun party game but I'd rather stab my eyes out than play timer rials in it. I pretty much exclusively play time trials on CTR though and it's honestly a shot party game if one person has skills. Online multiplayer is shot for both.

Mario didn't go on hiatus like Crash did, he stayed in the public eye for much longer, also came out in the 80s when it was far easier for franchises to get off the ground and become cultural phenomenons
