I think they missed out on a potential cute moment where DK's going to steal bananas from one of the villages and Pauline chastises him as his moral compass. You know, rip off The Iron Giant wholesale, or any other little kid + big thing movie script.

I like to go down to the very bottom until I hit unbreakable ground then go into Kong Bananza and destroy everything until there's a massive underground cavern.

The final rehearsal was too short. Only hard parts were the start and end so its harder than darker side and 3D Land’s thing but its not that fun. You can cheese it with those health refills if you want.

Void is passing through, stealing giant caches of bananas, and fucking up the layers in some way, making life harder for the locals. DK is passing through, mining out bananas by hand, and undoing the damage Void has caused, so while the locals may first consider DK another intruding, thieving outsider they quickly warm up to him, and he gains favor with the locals completely by meeting with the elders and learning their Bananzas. They're more than happy to let DK take the bananas he finds after that, he's one of them then.

I must disagree. I loved both, but I find odyssey to have much greater diversity of mechanics. DK was great, but most of the game boils down to "punch things to collect bananas," with occasional departures from this when the game necessitates bananza usage. odyssey allows for a much larger variation of puzzles due to the capturing mechanic and is thus much more engaging. for me odyssey is 9/10, DK 8/10.

I completely agree. The team really outdid themselves. I'm not sure why that doesn't reflect in the scores. It's the most consistently inventive and interesting game they've done. Forget level gimmicks, every sublayer has some new mechanic or twist, and it's all completely unified with the voxel terrain system. And unlike with some of the previous 3D Mario games (which were also just bursting with ideas), they aren't just pulling from decades of established mechanics.

Capturing is shit because it directly interferes with Mario's moveset, you either cap an enemy and do the level as some guy that can't jump as good or ignore it and use Mario to skip everything. In Bananza every single mechanic integrates with the terrain and DK's abilities, even the bananza powers still keep most of your moves intact
