what's the /v/erdict?
>>716415364 (OP)Nobody here played it they just watched it on youtube or masturbated to its characters
>>716415364 (OP)It's still GOTY but I do wish something better than it will come out this year.
>>716415474Prime 4 is coming.
nintendotroons and JRPG sissies malding over goty made by fr*nchoids
the /v/erdict is
>Verso needs to go play the piano
>Maelle needs to go to the toilet
>there are literally 0 threads about it
>>716415364 (OP)Good game, and like everything in this hellhole: popularity means you will have retards seethe at it
You will also have people that will fall for the bait and so it becomes like metacritic user scores - it's either a 1/10 or a 10/10
>>716415516"better" is the important word here
>>716415364 (OP)its really shit. the characters and their dialogue are unbearable.
graphics is your average modern unreal engine brown and bloom slop.
>>716415364 (OP)It's good and 90% of people saying otherwise got filtered or didn't play it and are seething frenchniggers made something better than japs. Easily GoTY 60ish hours of content for 100% closer to 90 without any guides for collectables. Solid 9.5 for me there was very little I didn't like about the game. I genuinely just wish it was harder. More Clea and Simons desu
>>716415364 (OP)>preordered>still haven't started it
>>716415364 (OP)>what's the /v/erdict?Still thinking about dirty Lune.
>>716416308Stop posting pictures of my wife on the internet.
>>716415364 (OP)It lost me at the end of Act 2. I hated the twist. The game was still fun, but it didn't hit the same afterwards.
I'll give it an 8/10, because it did so many things right, but it's not a GOTY contender for me.
Definitely best soundtrack tho.
>>716415364 (OP)Kino, but won't win goty because the cast is too white.
>>716415364 (OP)It's GOTY.
But it won't win GOTY because it's not woke.
>there was an version of the end we will never see
>>716417696>maleBros, not like this.
>>716415364 (OP)Best game since Elden Ring. Really striking visuals with complementary ost. Flying Waters is already one of my favorite and most comfy areas in vidya.
>>716415364 (OP)Sadly not enough futa porn of the game to be in my radar...
>>716415364 (OP)It's good but it's spawned the most insufferable elitist fanbase who think liking this game makes them a connoisseur of high art or some shit. Even reading this they are probably getting filled with rage and vitriol and will mask it by acting aloof in their dumbass replies. Great music tho
Flavour of the week Asmongoldcore slop.
>>716415364 (OP)My main problem is the characters having the same face over and over.
The pacing of the story is pretty bad, and Lune and Sciel have nothing interesting to do for 80% of their screentime. I also found the โlet me play in my dead broโs VR chat world some moreโ not particularly compelling
>>716418793This, video game can't be art and I am tired of pretending otherwise.
Man, gamers have such low standards for stories i don't i should feel pity or sadness. From the talking surrounding this game i was expecting the new Gormenghast, the new Earthsea, the new LOTR, the new Book of the New Sun.
Instead, i got the new Eragon.
>>716418793I hugely enjoyed the game, but I actually do not think it's music is all that good. It's a cohesive soundtrack, but fucking Lies of P has better songs in it. Much better. And they have narrative game mechanics attached to them. It even has a song in French with lyrics that sounds like they could be from Clair Obscur.
E33 meanwhile starts grating on your ears after a while. Very noisy.
>>716415364 (OP)Lune has a cute butt and sciel is built Lita porn model.
>>716415516I'm not a child so I didn't buy a Switch 2
>>716420541UE5 is the only real criticism here. Kill yourself, faggot.
>>716418051I can smell it!
>>716424260>the new EarthseaI've read the whole thing and fun as it was, the story was really nothing special. E33's story and characters are certainly more memorable.
And the comparison to Eragon is just shitting on the game unfairly. Even as a kid I could see it was a mediocre book, even compared to stuff like Harry Potter.
>>716425089The records in Lies of P are good. The actual soundtrack of the game while you're actually playing it is completely generic and uninteresting.
>>716427271Yeah, that's what I was trying to say.
>>716415364 (OP)Normalfag bait for people who pretend to like JRPGs but only play FF, Persona and Elden Ring. The game is very subpar and only does a few things right?
>>716428302Tell me about your unique taste in JRPGs then.
>inb4: n-no, because you'll just call them shitI won't comment on games I haven't played, and if I do comment, I'll attach a picture that proves I played them. I've finished probably around 150-200 JRPGs (and played 10 times as many), so there's a good chance I did play your favourites before.
>>716429219>I've finished probably around 150-200 JRPGs (and played 10 times as many),See, why would I even reply to a shitpost like this? Even if you knew Japanese (which you don't) you absolutely have not played 1500 or more JRPGs.
>>716429219are there even 200 jrpgs?
>>716430275Here's what I'm playing as we speak. I like to collect screenshots, so I can prove that I finished around 70-90 JRPGs. I started collecting them around 12-14 years ago, but started playing JRPGs over 25 years ago, and back then I had much more time on my hands.
And yeah, I may have gone too far with that "10 times", but 5 times should be right. I at least tried playing easily 80-90% JRPGs that can be emulated.
>>716431007Many, many more.
There's a Polish site I like, because it's easy to use. It has lists of RPGs on every platform. Not only JRPGs, but there are flags next to titles that indicate in what languages a game is available. In case of Japanese consoles, games with a Japanese flag are mostly Japanese, very rarely western with Japanese translation.
Check, for example, all RPGs for the GBA:
>https://jrkrpg.pl/gry/gba/I didn't count, but there could be ~100 JRPGs for only this one platform. You can choose a platform on the left to see the full list.
>>716415863you didn't play it
>brown and bloomlmao it's oversaturated if anything.
>>716415364 (OP)slop of the tranny variety
you didnโt play it schizo is the frogoids strongest shilltroon
>>716431546why seethe so hard about a game you haven't played? why make objectively false claims
>>716431025>Okay, I was exaggerating about literally everything but here's an RPG for casual girls to prove I've played 500 JRPGsThe only part of your posts I believe is that you're dumb enough to think E33 is special.
>>716415364 (OP)best start to a JRPG since FFX
>>716415364 (OP)Has been a long time since I enjoyed a story focused game this much. To the point where I wasn't even sure if I could still feel this way about a game. An absolute masterpiece.
>>716431639XHE SAID THE LINE!!!
Mid garbage
Entire idea is stolen from a Dark Souls level
There are way too many brown people in this game. The whole fucking party is brown except for one.
>>716423226A can of shit can be art. If you think your hobby is worse than that, then you are a can of shit too.
>>716418793this but the music is also generic shit
>>716431881A can of shit is more art than games
>>716431338Gotta admire their dedication to 33 autism
>>716432509Dog is trying to break the sandalโs neck.
>>716415364 (OP)I will clap like a seal when they sing Une vie t'aimer at the game awards and i have 0 shame for it. The song is a masterpiece
>>716431668So you think I took that screenshot from somewhere? Or maybe I keep a Japanese game on PC even though I don't know the language for some reason?
Here's the folder with screenshots from JRPGs I finished in the last 12-14 years, by the way. Want me to post some? Just tell me the title.
Note: E33 is there only tentatively. I myself am not sure if a non-Japanese game can be counted as a JRPG.
Note 2: I'm not 100% sure about Zelda and Yakuza games either. Without them there's ~70 games in the folder. By the way, should I include Dark Souls 1-3 and Dragon's Dogma? They're Japanese and are RPGs in a way.
See, I'm trying to find a common ground and discuss. All you do is say "only people who don't play JRPGs like E33" and when I prove it's not true, you cover your ears and scream "can't hear you!".
So, again, what are your favourite JRPGs? Those much better than FF, Persona, Elden Ring and E33?
>>716415364 (OP)Good game, but its no masterpiece. Sciel and Lune got shafted. The combat balance is bad. Side content gets a little too repetitive.
The rest is fine.
>>716416425>8/10>not a GOTY contender for mewhat is then?

>>716434924It has like 15 banger songs you can use on the gramophone that also give you Humanity so you can get the true ending while Clair Obscur has Lumiere and few other BGM tunes that are decent.

>>716435354Yes, it has a ton of decent video game music, and it's all very cohesive. That's what the composer was specifically going for, being a complete VGM nerd basically. But I simply cannot count these as songs.
>>716435191>Berber from north africa, used to be whiteIsn't she just a gypsy? With a tan from working the fields.
>your team has three hot women
How was this allowed?
>>716435581I don't really get your stance but whatever I respect it music is subjective.
For my part I'm tired of subversive music in vidya (like Stellar Blade and shit like this) nowadays. E33 gave me a classical/orchestral Jarpig OST and it was refreshing to me.
>>716434198>Note: E33 is there only tentatively. I myself am not sure if a non-Japanese game can be counted as a JRPG.>Note 2: I'm not 100% sure about Zelda and Yakuza games either. Without them there's ~70 games in the folder. By the way, should I include Dark Souls 1-3 and Dragon's Dogma? They're Japanese and are RPGs in a way. You're clearly very retarded, which is why I've already told you that I believe you when you say you like Expedition 33. I'm sure you're very proud of yourself for fumbling through Japanese text you can kind of read.
>All you do is say "only people who don't play JRPGs like E33" and when I prove it's not trueYou think Zelda is an RPG and most of that image you posted is FF, DQ, Tales and Yakuza. That'd be like me saying I'm big on shooters because I play CoD, Fortnite and Tarkov.
>So, again, what are your favourite JRPGs? Those much better than FF, Persona, Elden Ring and E33?For turn based, Wild Arms 2. For real time action combat, Dragon's Dogma.
>>716435545And I never met a white person obsessed with being white. It's literally brown people calling each other brown. There's probably not a single white poster in /pol/.
>>716435545You just need to have continuously documented + DNA proof that >95% of your ancestry in 1000BC was living in a triangle between Frisa, Bergen and Gotland.
Can't do it? Seems questionable huwhite to me.
>>716435772I was totally vibing while playing the actual game, which is all that matters, but I have tried listening to the OST they have on Youtube and it doesn't work for me.
>>716434818>The combat balance is badYeah once you get rid of the damage cap, it's super easy BUT there is a way to give shit more health and cap the damage for fags like you
>>716415364 (OP)Good but overhyped.
>>716436390>BUT there is a way to give shit more health? how? dont say mod
>>716435807>Dragon's DogmaA solid game, but in my opinion not as good as E33 in pretty much every aspect. Still, a valid choice. But it's a pretty popular game, and a moment ago you were looking down on people for liking popular JRPGs.
>Wild Arms 2It's been a while since I've finished the series, so I don't have screenshots. Surprisingly my favourite was actually The Fifth Vanguard. But I'm not commenting, since I can't prove I played it.
Which reminds me that you have yet to prove that you played E33 at all and aren't just shitting on it, because it's popular.
>most of that image you posted is FF, DQ, Tales and YakuzaVery astute of you to notice that they're big series, yes. Yet, I bet there are games there you have never even heard about, too.
> I'm sure you're very proud of yourself for fumbling through Japanese text Quite a bit, yes. It's a difficult language to learn.
I liked E33 art style, music and plot
I really hated that every fight was a parryfest. It should had been much better with something like Shadow Hearts judgement ring (a game they clearly got inspired from)
Even so the game was of unexpected high quality and way above the usual AAA slop
>>716436641Once in act III (which you already are in if you remove the damage cap) you can customize enemy stats at any rest flag. Did you somehow not notice the options appearing?
To be fair they added it like two weeks after release so it's possible you completed it asap at launch and didn't have the option but it's there now.

>>716436691>but in my opinion not as good as E33 in pretty much every aspect. There is not a single thing E33 does better than DD except main character characterization, and that's by nature of DD being a blank slate MC game.
>and a moment ago you were looking down on people for liking popular JRPGs.No, I look down on people for playing a few popular entry level games and pretending their huge fans of the genre and that E33 is a perfect love letter.
>Which reminds me that you have yet to prove that you played E33 at all and aren't just shitting on it, because it's popular.Shut the fuck up. And none of these screenshots either of us post mean anything when they're not timestamped.
>Yet, I bet there are games there you have never even heard about, too.The only remotely niche game there is London Tantei, but I'm actually fluent in moon (real fluent, not internet "I can kind of read it" fluent) so any posturing you're about to try about being into niche Japanese things isn't going to work with me because I've heard of whatever you're going to post that isn't some garbage GBA game that no one in Japan even pretends to like.
>>716435354The New Age/electronic tracks are mostly very mediocre.
>>716435745>>your team has three hot women>How was this allowed? That's pretty standard for a JRPG wannabe.
>>716437140There are like 3 of them.
>>716437118>The only remotely niche game there is London TanteiAnd Rungu Rungu Ozu no Mahoutsukai is everyone's favourite. But it seems I don't actually know any good niche JRPGs, so give me some titles, since you clearly do. Always looking for new ones. I only have El Dorado Gate for the Dreamcast planned right now for when I'm done with Abarenbou Princess.
Not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but what does it matter to you that people like E33? From the way you speak, you seem incredibly frustrated. Genuinely curious, because normally people who act like this are the ones who don't even play video games and just shit on them as a part of their political war or whatever other agenda they have, which clearly isn't the case here.
>>716425089I agree. The soundtrack definitely has some standout moments, like the scene where the expedition sets sail, and it has a good ambiance, but it's still lacking something.
The composer is clearly very talented and I think his next soundtrack is where he is really going to shine.
>>716437924>But it seems I don't actually know any good niche JRPGs, so give me some titles, since you clearly do.Niche here? Popolocrois since basically no one here has played it. Niche in Japan? Doesn't exist because anything that's at least pretty good has been talked about a lot.
>Not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but what does it matter to you that people like E33?We're on /v/. You don't get to come to a board for people to talk about video games then ask why people are talking about their opinions on video games here. That's fucking retarded.
>because normally people who act like this are the ones who don't even play video games and just shit on them as a part of their political war or whatever other agenda they haveBelieve it or not, some people actually talk about video games here, whether they're good or bad. I had to listen to every casual "JRPG fan" shilling this love letter to JRPGs like fake mecha fans shill Trigger/Imaishi anime, so when a thread comes up talking about the game, I'm going to call it what it is. If I spammed the thread screaming about how it's shit you might have more of a point, but you're the one who took offense to me (rightfully) calling it a game that people who play a few popular JRPGs and nothing else fellate endlessly.
>>716423226agree
banana ducttaped to a wall > all of videogames
>>716434830You know I thought about it and I don't know. I think E33 might win by default because there's not much competition.
>>716415364 (OP)Really good game. It'd be a 9/10 if it wasn't impossible to trivialize the difficulty by simply playing the game naturally. I understand you can crank up enemy health to absurd degrees, but that's only post-paintress.
And at hard difficulty, I'm too trash at parrying to be able to handle how much more damage they do.
My best solution would be to include options right at the start of the game where you can disable getting bonus exp for taking no damage and maybe bump down exp rewards in general.
>>716438495>I'm going to call it what it isBut you're calling it what it isn't. It clearly isn't a game "for people who pretend to like JRPGs but only play FF, Persona and Elden Ring", since I'm not one of them and I like it.
This is just a simple generalization used to shit on something thoughtlessly. You could as well say that "only trannies/brown people like it" or post an ugly, stupid, friendless, crying Wojak and quote "I like E33", even faster this way. It's simply childish.
>>716415364 (OP)Kino of the decade.
>>716440027>since I'm not one of them and I like it.You being a weird outlier who tries a lot of JRPGs but then also thinks that Yakuza and Zelda are RPGs doesn't mean that the audience I mentioned isn't who the game is made for and who loves it.
>This is just a simple generalizationNo, that's an accurate summation of who likes the game. I've seen it both here on /v/ and in real life with the people I know who like it.
>It's simply childish. You getting upset that it's a "JRPG" for people who don't actually like JRPGs doesn't make it childish, nor does it make what I said comparable to wojak shitposting. The game literally thoughtless mashes together ideas and mechanics from the specific series I listed. That's not a thoughtless shitpost.
>>716435807Sorry for the off-topic, but how much is WA2 improved by playing it in Japanese? I remember the English translation being awful so i always wondered if the original script was actually great.
>>716415364 (OP)Read any of the 6 and 7/10 reviews it got - there are heaps and they all say the same thing.
>>716441139>but how much is WA2 improved by playing it in Japanese?A lot. The English is peak "The translator didn't really know Japanese or English and just threw words into whatever documents he was given". Games and manga in general are much better in Japanese even if the translation is pretty good, but for something with a bad translation it's basically a completely different story.
>>716438012The composer for E33 had never made video game music before, he just made normal music. But video game music is inherently a bit different for a number of reasons, like the fact that you're often going to hear the same track over and over in an area. That said, the music he made is fantastic.
>>716415364 (OP)There is LITERALLY no chance this doesn't sweep every single GOTY out there unless Jesus himself releases a game in the next few months or a different developer finds the Epstein files and all the judges' names are on it
>>716438012i think its because japanese jrpg music relies heavily on melody, the kind you can pinpoint and hum, whereas in E33 its mostly grandiose sweeping chord changes. Tracks like Alicia and the main Lumiere theme have standout melodies and the Renoir battle theme but that's about it. The secret sauce in E33's music is its novelty as being closer to contemporary neo classical, it even got top 1 on billboards list. Listening to it feels like it's important, like it's more "prestige" than other video games because of its operatic vocals, thunderous pianos, and violins, but i can understand why those that listen for unique harmonic inventions may see through its flashy exterior.
>>716445220It has some memorable melodies. It's just hard for it to standout because the tracks are busy and the mixing is absolutely terrible. (the composer is great but was a poorfag most likely).
Just by turning the tracks 8bit, the melodies are much more distinct:

>>716415364 (OP)I'm up to the second Axon or w/e and it's good but a little overhyped. The combat has enough depth, bit unbalanced but who cares, difficulty feels pretty fairly tuned so you can reasonably beat most bosses first go... Parrying keeps it engaging but admittedly i found the normal enemies a bit tedious to fight, they can have a lot of HP, so i pretty much ran through most of the dungeons so far
Premise is interesting and I thought the opening set it up very well but the reliance on a magic villain that can seemingly just show up wherever and kill everyone is a bit lame, and i don't really care for the characters except Gustave (lol)
So far I'm feeling it's like an 8/10 but it's fine. It reminds me of some old mid-budget JRPG with a mad premise you might get back in the day, like Shadow Hearts or something, only more French

It's a great game but I felt zero motivation to play it again after I finished it. Having to constantly micro-manage my pictos or whatever skill points/skills I had was laborious and tedious in the end-game. Also, most battles are literally the same loop, to the point that I could have a macro running and win in the first or second round most of the time.
The parrying in this game is legitimately harder than any From game. Holy fucking christ. Sound cues are really useless for the most part, unless I have insane audio delay.

Lol Satan made that game for us to see, not for us to play it. Satan owns all the shit dude. Lol, dude? Remember American pie movie at band camp? Im in love with Stacieโs mom. Or what about the simpsons. Itโs a dog eat dog world out there. Dogs actually sniff eachothers ass, because it smells good. Imagine sniffing a womanโs ass? It smells like poop. So yeah, hopefully you understand. Anime. Letโs talk gundam. I had this thought this morning after I woke up. Kira Yamato is the smartest man alive. And also the deadliest. And, even better. He paid the most expensive price. He sacrificed his life for our freedom. But if he was smiling at you, youโd get extremely turned on. Thats because everyone is secretly gay for Asian male. So let this be a lesson. Itโs okay to have gay sex with Asian men. But to sniff a girls butt is over the line thematically. Biblically speaking, this was definitely a simulation of sorts where a god had sex. But did you? I doubt it. I dont think he ever lets anyone else do it. Would you? Like really, would you share your wife with somebody? It all makes sense when the cookie crumbles we can see the reflection in the mirror. Billions of interconnected parts all refracting light into a single point. The truth nuke. The final redpill. Everyone knows already the clone army ran a train on your mom. Remember family guy? Peeeetahhh, the clone army took my virginity. โLois, I am the clone tooโ. Probably. So probably thatโs whatโs going on. Is that he clones himself through reproduction. And, doesnt wanna share his women. Wats an orgasm? It is literally an oar. A ga. A sim. Slavery, reproduction, simulation. Make sense? Listen to this next part. Iโve been meaning to tell you about the truth about orgasms in a simulation hosted by an evil omnipotent sexual molestor.

thematically it makes sense, it's not gustave's story it turns out, being a descendant of people who were literally just painted into the canvas, but killing him in the middle of the story after setting him up to be the protagonist was a gut punch and it really made me not want to give a fuck about verso at all. there could have been so many great choices and moments for him to realize he lives in a fucking dream world and having the power to decide how to move forward would have been a much better perspective than what we got, which was just a girl who actually can't die but has magic super powers to go into anything they paint, and some dead faggot with a splinter of his soul inside of a canvas who wants to suicide. it should have been gustave's choice. that would have made everything feel way more impactful and had the stakes raised even higher since he likely can't even leave the painting and probably doesn't want to kill verso either.

>>716463475Basically how I felt. The realistic western character designs jarred really hard with the typical goofy JRPG tropes. I just didn't feel anything during the 'emotional' moments of the game, because I barely knew anything about the cast - and even after it ended, I still felt like I didn't know anything about them. Just no personality whatsoever. They kept everything mysterious and unexplained for way too long, and I just wanted one of the characters to tell Verso to shut the fuck and actually explain just what the fuck is going on. Stop being coy and mysterious. By the time the revelations came around, I was checked out. I understand it was made on a lower budget, but so were a lot of other RPGs.

Kinda boring, there is no tactical variance besides parry everything, buff/debuff/replenish AP, attack. Trash mobs all die in one rotation of aoe attacks. Weapon/picto upgrades are boring, usually you have a build tailored to a weapon or a picto, and even if you do find something stronger, it does not outperform your build. Example is Maelle with the sword that puts her in the pink stance immediately or Verso with that weapon that lets him AA for free. And I also felt a disconnect playing as Verso, the guy literally sneaks away during Old Lumiere. He was hiding so much shit that I didn't enjoy the game from his perspective.

Really sad too because this was one of the only enjoyable story heavy games for me in like a decade.
I think they shoulda capped lumina at 150 or so points.
My onlynreal gripe with the game is that it's too easy to get too powerful. I know that there is a lot of self imposed stuff like the damage caps or health multipliers but thats not my job. The devs should have done that. Making builds would be a lot more fun and rewarding if I actually had to work with restrictions.
>retards filtered by the story so they call it bad
every time
Deep in Act 3, I enjoy the game and will definitely finish it, but I think it's a bit overrated. The big positives are the ost and some of the scenery and the gameplay is surprisingly fun for how simple it is. But I think the game suffers a lot from UE5 syndrome and how much it (presumably) relies on premade assets. At least that's the feeling I get from it, from all the invisible walls and the muddled/unfocused sense I get from the visual design.
It's like when I find a lovingly made porn comic that was made with AI. The creator might have spent a lot of time prompting and inpainting and even doing manual edits and maybe there are no obvious errors. But the creative soul is spread thin and a lot of elements feel generic. I'd rather have had traded less visual fidelity for the game being more handcrafted. The soundtrack and the story at least they had to make from scratch and that part's good.

>How did the painted world come to exist. Don't know.Verso made it originally, without humans. His mother Aline added humans and interpretations of her family.
>What is the purpose of the Gommage? Don't know.Aline/Paintress' powers are waning fighting Renoir and she is forced to cull some people regularly.
>Where is the rest of the world? Outside some bubble I guess. Why isn't the rest of the world intervening? The rest of the world as in outside the painting? We get some glimpses from Clea who is the only one in the family still involved, there apparently are organizations/guilds of magical artists Alan Wake style, and the Painters are busy in a conflict with another faction called the Writers, which is why she needs to get her family back together ASAP even violently.
Also the ending plaque shows a date of 33rd of December, so whatever world they exist in is not our own.
>Why is Gustave so hell bent on doggy styling Maelle? He likes having children and a family, which is why he drifted apart from Sophie and why he has many apprentices as an engineer. Maelle was being shuffled between foster parents before he took her as his sisterdaughter.
>Why does Maelle make Verso play the piano if you choose her ending?Metaphor for performative happiness yadda yadda
But aside from that, there's a camp dialogue where Verso tells Maelle that after it's all "finished" it'd be his pleasure to play piano for everyone back in Lumiere. He's lying of course, he hasn't told Maelle that the culmination of his plan is everyone and the world dying at the end, but Maelle is ironically keeping him true to his word.
Where did 33 even land when Dark Shores is unreachable by sea?

>>716415364 (OP)It's aggressively mediocre and carried entirely by Luminairรฉ looking really cool and a fairly unique OST.
The story and interest in the world design fall apart after the prologue with few places looking as interesting as the city and the story utterly shits itself once the main twist is revealed as everything you would care about up to that point becomes utterly unimportant as the world must revolve around the painters despite them being incredibly boring.
Combat is the same, early on dodges and parries feeling so impactful is novel but general encounter design and frequency is at odds with this and the rest of the combat system fails to keep up as it feels pretty dry in comparison, once you break the damage cap it feels very much like there is a single correct way to play and a dozen worthless trap options. Mostly due to the skill limit of 6.
I'm convinced half the people who aggressively glaze this game and claim it is a masterpiece without peer never actually played it past act 2 and instead treat it as fans of earthbound games do. Something they claim to love and adore as a fashion statement.
>>716476315>aggressively mediocreyou're aggressively retarded

/v/ will hate on it for the usual contrarian reasons like popularity and not being on the Shitch 2
Renoir and Verso were right. His side easily represents Christ. Life. Truth. The way. The women are wrong, save for Clea, because she was only ever motivated to honor her parents. Alicia and The Paintress are addicted to escapism (drugs). The constructs in the painting aren't real sadly there are those who deceive themselves into believing that having more empathy for something like an animal, for which we are meant to have dominion, over that of an actual human life is detestable and backward. Maelle is guaranteed a pointless, selfish death with hell as her eternity where she rendered Verso's sacrifice utterly meaningless and devastates her entire family but these people don't want to honor Verso or care about Renoir or the rest of the family. They forget that the original goal was getting the mother out of the canvas. Once it's time to get out since it's been established that the mother is the strongest in the family and WILL find a way to return, Alicia gets incredibly selfish and refuses to listen to reason.
It's even revealed that the last remnant of Verso's soul is tired and doesn't want to do this anymore. Alicia. Doesn't. Care. She just wants to stay in her candyland. Recall the beginning of the game. She actives craps on living in Lumiere. She truly doesn't sound like a fan of living there. But at the end she's crying for it. And that's sad because she doesn't believe in herself. Renoir flat out tells her that she can leave and recover her health and then return to the canvas later. She flat out refuses this truth.
There will be more women than men at the Great White Throne of Judgment. Maelle is the perfect reason why. She takes no accountability for her actions. She was supposed to be there to help her parents and honor her brother and in the end warped it all into her own pain. She didn't want to be accountable. Verso literally has to save Maelle's life twice because in grief she is massive idiot. She never would have released soul. That's evil.
>>716415364 (OP)Is there really not a single mod to get Maelle in a slutty cat or cow costume?
>>716477926I think it's more than that. Just as a big part of the story is about the relationship between the artist and their art, Aline and Alicia lost sight of what their true intentions were and we know that the both of them were the most responsible for Verso's death.
Symbolically, this is also why Real Renoir and Painted Verso end up doing the same thing: They would love to see things as it could be but prior experiences have taught them to see things as they are. The role of Painted Verso is to bring light back to the real family and dispel illusions that would drag the family into a premature death like the original did and it's not by coincidence that a Renoir and a Verso are involved in the ending of every Act.

Just finished it. Why couldn't there be a more reasonable ending? Why can't Maelle just leave, erase Verso and keep canvas safe so it won't genocide whole world? She could even drop in sometimes to not get crazy. Instead there are two forced sad endings.
>>716480074Because Greek tragedy
>>716480074The reason is just that the director likes sad/bittersweet endings, literally.
>>716480074>keep canvas safeShe can't. It's like keeping the One Ring safe. Eventually Gollum/Aline will still find it and be destroyed by it.

>>716479347both sold the most in China. Tells you everything you need to know.
>>716481286No, because that's how the painting is powered. Not even Aline would be able to keep Lumiere here without the kid Verso and that's the biggest issue: The thoughts, emotions and chroma that goes into Lumiere can't be supplemented by kid Verso so Aline either has to stay until she dies or she gets punted out and it vanishes in time.
That's why I think Aline originally just wanted a happy Verso to exist with his friends along with being free in a Lumiere of his own, the huge problem is that she was lying to herself in her art too and she wished for him to be alive, and we all know how that went once Renoir confronted her.

>>716481302O U T P A I N T I N G S K L I L L E D
Seriously though, this might not make sense from the gameplay point of view, since you pretty much can't expect it to happen the first time you see it, but it does make sense in the game's world. The dude can fight, they don't do much except fighting, so feints like that are completely understandable.
>>716415364 (OP)Literally one of the best games ever made.
>>716484497It's a shit mechanic because too many fights turn into "Die a few times to see all the moves then memorize them like Simon Says." The whole game is built around having a save no less than 10 seconds before the last thing you did (but for some reason there's no quick retry button on battles).
>>716485002It's not that bad. I only died to a couple of bosses, especially the optional ones that were much higher level than me, to some of them a lot of times, but in most battles you should be able to have at least one character alive after the enemy turn, so you can revive the others.
>>716485002Playing on normal, using dodges, and using heals you really don't die very often at all. I don't like the combat that much but I'm convinced most of the people hating on it are those who subject themselves to CBT expert mode parry only runs for no real reason. If you're not an autistic parry game lover, just don't play like that, the game gives you options.
i have a problem getting through it, largely due to the piss poor navigation. i bought it a month ago and haven't completed it. for agame where you are supposed to be exploring an alien world, there are incredibly boring linear levels, with no minimap, full of random encounters, who nobody reasonable has ever liked. it feels like they just wanted to pad out their hours.
>>716487453It's not really a matter of how difficult it is, it's just shitty difficulty. Simon Says style gameplay sucks.
>>716487901I played expert and did mostly parries. It wasn't CBT, it just wasn't fun difficulty. Dying a few times until I learned patterns was just kind of annoying. In Act 3, the first place I went was the Renoir's Drafts (before I even got cheater from Sprong) and I still cleared almost everything there on my first pass. Gimmick turn based game inputs combined with Elden Ring style feint windows is just annoying, not really hard.
>>716415364 (OP)Worst game I ever played
>>716488924Again, if it wasn't fun difficulty why were you playing on expert? You asked the game for the parry autist, beat your head against the wall until you parry everything experience and you're unsatisfied with that? I think it's shit but that's why I stayed on normal and used every tool at my disposal.
>>716460484I am also not sure why they put so many fights in. If you have a slower more defensive build it must fucking suck.
>>716415364 (OP)Great game, fun gameplay, fantastic soundtrack. The problem with it is that it's far too easy to become overpowered. This makes the final boss fights rather anticlimactic. Also, a lot of the enemy attack animations are very long-winded because of all the feints that are meant to throw off your dodge/parry timing. The story is quite good, but the final chapter is a massive infodump and feels like the devs were running out of time.
>>716489105>Again, if it wasn't fun difficulty why were you playing on expert?Because I always play games on the highest difficulty setting unless it's a meme setting like nightmare in Doom.
>>716488015you sound like a zoomer retard

>>716415364 (OP)Runs like shit on my 4070, but its a good game. I enjoyed the story and thought it was interesting enough to play a game with a combat style I normally dont like. I ended up liking the combat. The music is great, I've modded the sound track into skyrim to replace the normal music
>>716488015>can't navigate without minimapTop kek

>>716491842>I normally don't like turn based combat but now that it's a rhythm game I love itThis game will do as much damage to the genre as FF10 did back in the day
>>716492727I think a lot of it is just mindbroken EUfags desperately looking for a win
>>716492801It's very similar to FFX in its railroading, lack of being an actual game, and generating hoards of fans who think the melancholic story is the peak of the medium.
>>716472316wrong. everyone gets deleted or fake-puppeted and everything is bad and sad no matter what.
the end :)
>>716494020Taken in a metaphorical sense, Verso's ending can be seen as a positive one because Aline and Alicia healing means that they will live to see tomorrow and they will go on to create happy paintings.
Dessendre family memebers are pretty fucked up. They don't seem to have any morals either. Why are they only ones to get any kind of good ending after all the suffereing they caused? Especially the parents.
