When will the philosophies of arcade game design make a return in mainstream gaming? What will it take to make people understand and appreciate its beauty?

I like Mork but him and his cohort need to either accept the fact that their preferred style of arcade game design is niche and always will be, or do a better job of evangelizing its strengths to people who might be swayed.

Universal Basic Income, that's what.
what is arcade design. starting at the beginning of the game when you die? that's the only thing that separates donkey kong from donkey kong country when you think about it
>>716416892 No time wasted, you are constantly moving and pressing buttons with purpose, no walking to places Also no progression that gets saved when you turn the game off like level ups or equipment
>>716416997 >>716416892 Also optional but highly encouraged is a functional score system DKC is not an arcade game because it has save points and dumb time waster minigames and the game showers you with 1ups but its not like those things disqualify you its a spectrum with platformer/action games of that era, they still had quite a few arcade elements to them left in those days.
/v/ is supposed to harbor vidya enthusiasts and judging by the responses itt they don't even know what "Arcade game design" means. I'm not holding my breath for normies to get it within my lifetime.
>>716417637 How else do you explain modern gaming trends? Normie tastes dominate, and normies are wageslaves, the act of which never gets any easier. So their entertainment is easily consumed paste that doesn't challenge them too much, even the 'interactive' stuff like video games.
Thats why its called arcade design philosophy because these arenโt arcade games but are the devs who made them grow up only playing arcade and were influenced by their designs a lot. And since arcade is dead and new zoomer devs never even touched arcade before, this design philosophy will die and gaming will become watered down for the normie masses, which is already happening thus games like last of us are considered masterpieces by the masses when its a shit normie game.

>>716418587 But to me what matters the most is the score system, no functional (aka non console, lmao at mario 1/2/3 or sonic 1/2/3 score systems) score system not arcade, but thats just an opinion

>>716416030 (OP) The common man, and his kids, need to develop enough free time and get out the house enough to make new production arcade cabinets a commonplace thing - and then >>716417826 has to become the defacto way of playing them. This will provide profit and incentive. I was going to attach an image of a fuckable arcade cabinet (my fetish) but I forgot that /v/ is a blue board.

Arcade games are the ultimate "make your own fun" experience. They are as hard or as easy as you want it. You can just credit feed through most of them, or you can try to master the 1cc run. But to get a 1cc you need to autistically replay the same 20min long game ad nauseam which most people don't find fun in the long term.
