It's the only good Soulslike. Every other game in that genre doesn't worth time spent, Bloodborne's combat is still bad but the game is still bearable overall thanks to great level design, music and art style.

The most succinct proof that atmosphere and setting and artistry brutally mogs gameplay. As long as the gameplay is virtually the same between two games, in broad strokes, the game with the superior atmosphere will be the better experience. Video game directors should put more work and effort into into memorable settings and atmosphere because it's the most important part of the experience.

The problem I have with BB is that it's not really adventure at all
It's literally like a level based game

It's pretty much 'new area, these are the new enemies you will see, all 4 of them in the first 30 seconds, now go explore this shitty area for 30 minutes'

The actual souls game had a bit of variety to them

I can't name too many level based games where you can go to different levels within a level, unless it's shit like NES Castlevania, which had different exits to levels, which was absolutely kino. I can't think of any besides that in fact. This would also be calling like Metroid level based.
>It's pretty much 'new area, these are the new enemies you will see, all 4 of them in the first 30 seconds, now go explore this shitty area for 30 minutes'
This is all the souls games if you're not into them, and most games in general, with the caveat BB and Souls games have like dozens and dozens of enemies.
Anonymous No.716429990 [Report] >>716430106
>>716429786
What I mean is that BB is very frontloaded when you get to a new area
Like you meet the regular hollow version of npcs in BB then some dogs then the big ogre looking things with the brick and that's pretty much it for the first 30 minutes with a random pairing of wolves and some rats in the sewers
After that it's more hollowed/beast npcs again and then wolves for a while
Then it kinda continues like that

I suppose the problem I have with it is while they were clearly trying to the beast npcs = standard humans, they had no fucking clue and like I'd say at least 40% of the enemies consist of them or just the same thing multiplied over and over

the gameplay is good but it's only better than standard souls gameplay in a couple respects, and worse to much worse in many others
level design is nothing special post-central yharnam, trick weapons are basically aesthetic (now you're mashing L1 instead of R1!), build variety is much worse so it's more of a straight action game and yet despite that the boss roster is pretty bad (at least in the base game), the parry system is cool but way too few enemies are built around it (back to the boss roster being bad, too many beasts/monsters and too few hunters), etc etc
fundamentally it's not bad but it's nowhere near deserving of the amount of fellating it gets

It's a refined version of DeS and DaS, but that is also its flaw. The game is a new IP for God's sakes, an opportunity to try something new yet it repeats so many elements from DeS and DaS because Miyazaki can only make one game. Bloodborne is also clearly unfinished. Everything post the blood moon is rushed and you can see bad or even empty geometry everywhere.

It's 9/10 with Demon's Souls being 10/10.

Insight = inhuman knowledge. It enables you to see things you would otherwise be unable to perceive, most notably a certain type of eldritch entity which populates the game world. It also changes subtle details about certain enemies and the environment, and affects a certain boss fight. It lowers your frenzy resistance and your beasthood stat. You gain insight both from encountering and defeating bosses and also from discovering certain secrets and locations. Insight can be used as a currency to gain items from the messengers in the Hunter's Dream. Having high insight generally makes the game more difficult, but be aware that some of the rarest and most valuable items in the game can be acquired in exchange for a large amount of insight.

>vials and bullets
>bloodtinge is an extremely limited build
>arcanes better but there’s only enough options to make “the arcane build” with the only variation being primary weapon choice
> chalice dungeons either needed a LOT more variation and dedicated content or it should have been scrapped and repurposed to bolster the main game
>plots a cut and paste job and while the lore is absolutely fascinating the actual plot is bordering on nonsense

Blunderbuss is a spread shot and pistol is higher damage per individual bullet. The idea is I guess that the blunderbuss can stagger crouds but in practicality that’s not often viable. It's the second best game in its subgenre. Only Dark Souls is better.

Everyone wanks "le cosmic horror" stuff, and while I agree no game does it better, to me the real appeal was the Van Helsing type atmosphere and aesthetics. Chalice dungeons suck ass. Places like Nightmare Frontier and Forbidden Woods are just as bad as Lost Izalith.
Anonymous No.716445874 [Report]

I don’t love the frontier, especially the fucking poison bog slog but the woods are hugely overhated. It’s the only forest level in any game I’ve ever played that actually makes me feel like I’m lost in the woods. The huntsman camp with the boobytraps is cool, and so is the transition from people to snake people past the windmill. You may not enjoy what it’s going for but you have to admit it’s going for something, and with a lot more effort that izaleth.
