seems like you could pre-process each model. different angles, different LOD. efficiently store this data in some file format. and then blend between them somehow as you play.

very far distance gets 1 of 8 or so directional sprites based on coordinate system.
far distance sees multiple other sprites load in based on direction again to give a bit of parallax action
at medium range more stuff comes in and you get a 3D stylized model, potentially with 2D sprites making up other things like NPCs manning the walls.
at near range they become 3D as well.

I keep seeing these and I don't think you'll see a full game with this style or perspective.
I do think it would make for neat load screen transitions though.
You don't need AI for that though so I'm sure the cunt that gen'd this will turn it's nose up and sneer that they can totally make a AAAA pixel rpg with gorillion's of hours of slop content

Its not so much the sprite work, but the scale of the scenery and the visa showing very large structures from a distance. Not even Elder scrolls has castles anywhere that size or scale. You'd have to make an ES game, and then model Hogwarts castle to get a similar result. But that one castle ate up all the budget and time just for Hogwarts Legacy. So thats why no game can pull off that webm ignoring the sprite work. The scale is far too big for structures that size

Like a lot of JRPG works. You have to click on the castle and then you go into it. So the game has an overworld and the locations you go into are more like alternate zones rather than actually built into the game world the way a normal 3D game would work.
