He merely took Japanese naming conventions and put them in English. In Japanese stories you will have a character whose name contains the kanji for "sword" and the character is the best swordsman or a character with a contradictory name like the surname is something about winter but the main name has something to do with spring to indicate the character doesn't fit in their family, etc.

Die Hardman is the worst of all the names and it was 100 % intended to be a reference to the movie Die Hard.

Also, Sam gets a lot of shit because idiots think he's actually called "Sam Porter Bridges" when in reality his legal name is "Sam Strand", he says throughout the game that he wants to be called "Sam" (because he cut all ties with his family) and "Sam Porter Bridges" is not actually his name, it's his job title as a porter for Bridges.

It also makes it easier to remember the characters. If you gave me 10 characters named like "Samson Weaver", "Thomas Regan", "Kaelan Kade", "Kailan Cayde" etc then I'd never remember who is who and what their role is. Having characters like Die Hardman or Heartman makes them so much easier to recognize.
