Making Live Service games is a huge gamble. If I'm playing a game or games, I won't be interested in anything that comes out. The whole point of live service is that you can play them forever, so I'm not sure why companies make them like people will abandon their current games.

devs don't have to make a complete game, just sell a vertical slice

How is that working out? Have any of them succeeded?

the bubble burst and companies refuse to adapt.

>still uses season pass/battle passes that expire , promoting FOMO. when by now the average players has at least three battle passes from other games they need to grind out.

>overpriced skins a that's not even good (Rivals gooner compared to others ect)

> the games in themselves are just lazy, when I'm playing i shouldn't even have to really worry about battle pass stuff, just playing is good enough.

They aren't, but players are consolidating into like 5 live service games (Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft, Call of Duty and GTA).

1.5 million players? I wonder how they even get kids to play their garbage. It must be Youtube ads, but I only ever see ads for gacha. I guess the ads are tailored to the person.

Live-service games are essentially subscription apps (themselves a massive blight on society) in video game form. It's fortunate that people turn their backs on them.

They don't, though. The games with the most players on Steam are Live Service games. The only ones that bomb are the new ones trying to compete with existing games.

8 of the current top 10 games on Steam are live service trash. The only exceptions are Rust and Banana (which is mostly bots).

Splitgate 2 died so fast and so hard because they chased a billion modern FPS trends instead of just making Splitgate 1 again but polished to perfection. To make matters worse they're finally killing Splitgate 1's servers because of how badly they fucked up with Splitgate 2.
