Will we ever get a Tekken game that doesnโ€™t focus on the Mishima family?

retarded decisions made during the development of death by degrees killed that possibility for a long while at least.

>Will we ever get a Tekken game that doesnโ€™t focus on the Mishima family?
Impossible.
>Tekken 1 & 2
Fighting tournament hosted for control of the most powerful corporation on earth. It'd be the equivalent of the head of BlackRock being Bruce Lee (But a Bruce Lee who can beat up a bear) letting anyone on Earth enter for control of Blackrock.
>Tekken 3 Tournament goes away for 18 years, but comes back as cover for experiments Heihachi is running for the Devil gene, cryogenics, and the resurrection of an Aztect "God" who may be an extra terrestrial. Prize is still company ownership allegedly, but that gets complicated Paul canonically beat Ogre and leaves early to brag about winning, but technically did not win. Jin beats True Ogre but did not make it via rank so is not eligible for Company ownership.
>Tekken 4
Jin goes MIA and Kazuya has been MIA and the tournament is bait to bring them back. The corporation being the prize is kinda up for debate.
Story is convoluted and makes little sense.
>Tekken 5: Jinpachi is back from the grave. This would mean Mitzima Zibatsu corp would be still under his leadership as he was the old leader and not dead.... but that matters a lot less cause Apparently the secret ability of every Mishima is they can start up multinational conglomerates with ease. Now kazuya has Gcorp, Lee has Violet systems, etc.
>Tekken 6: now Jin has his own multinational conglomerate and kicks off WW3 using Tekken to kill the progenitor of the Devil Jin and force the world to be stronger through mass war.
If you are saying WTF how did we get from Karate CEOS letting people run a Blackrock type corporation if they lose a fighting tournament, to WW3 and rules that make no sense and no one even knowing what the prize of Tekken or how Tekken is declared, and it being pointless for the main players to even have a Tekken tournament cause they started spin off "Blackrock" companies.... yeah, we know.
Welcome to Tekken

It will. Tekken has a monopoly on 3D fighters right now.
>DOA was confirmed canceled with no plans to revive
>Soulcalibur had the weird time line reboot where 6 is really 2.5 and has been co firmed to have had the team disbanded with the only hope of another game coming in a decade if we are lucky, but no real direction to take the story.
Best we might get is some sort of spiritual successor that vaguely calls back to some stuff in the old games, but if they do this they nees to go SCIFI
>VirtuaFighter
They only are making 6 after Harada pushed them to try, and it is really only popular in Japan.

Tekken is the only 3D fighter pushing massive units with a massive competitive scene.
Every other fighter has gone back to 2D roots

Nina actually has a lot of room for spinoffs and stories, they did try but had limited success.
>>716439265 (OP)
Best bet for something like this is a Tekken like spinoff, but the problem is they aren't gonna want a game to cannibalize Tekken.
The biggest problem is 3D fighters are expensive to make and hard to balance. Where a new character in a 2D fighter costs around $500k for all assets and animation, a 3D character can be double or tripple that.
Then 3D fighters always insist on the newest and best looking engines.

If a new 3D fighter drops I think it could be insanely successful but it would need to do something different
>Similar mechanics to Tekken
>Cellshaded art so costs don't blow up nor is there a need for the newest engines
>Mod support encouraged by devs

Next, make a Story that is not so convoluted or contradictory.
I can actually think of one on the fly.
>Non lethal combat tournament
>Sponsors are defense contractors
>It's televised, it's the most viewed show in the world.
>Contractors get promo for selling nonlethal weapons to police and some "good will" and name recognition as well as beta testing against unarmed subjects for weaknesses.
>Weapons are allowed, but must be blunted and nonlethal.
>A rivalry between team Hands-on and Team weaponry becomes a thing weaponry users are not the strongest so they have their fans, Hands-on are the strongest and seen as overcoming machines, so they have their fans.
>Both sides Sponsored by the same people because defense contractors want the testing data on their inventory.
>Final boss is a full mechanical bot with some tricks up their sleeve. They are playable and not locked off.
>Focus on what each character does with winning, motivations for joining, etc.

Feel a game like that could be a great series with room to grow as "biological" fighters. I also feel it openly being nonlethal avoids the constant cycle of dead/resurected characters and time line time travel crap.

>but had limited success.
because they handed the most important parts of the game, the combat and its controls, off to literal whos who hadn't even worked on an action game before. a nina beat em up with re meets mgs structure should've been easy, but instead they ended up with cy girls but worse. real shame that they poisoned the well like that since it was totally avoidable.

Tekken isn't even a fighting game any more. It's automated gambling that plays cutscenes when you roll the dice.

It ain't THAT bad.
Yeah, Season 2 was the worst and had they continued that direction I'd agree. And yeah I wish it were less stance heavy, but the most recent patches addressed a lot of the issues. The game plays great now, but some issues are hard baked into the game and will only see corrections in the next game (mainly almost every character going into stances now).
I don't care that they got rid of backdashing, sidestepping is better than ever cause of it.
No, I don't care about heat... they nerfed chip damage so it's not insufferable now.

A sequel without gimmick mechanics and solid action/stealth mechanish that is a hard M rating with nudity would sell.
>Do a "death by degrees" sequel with Ana
>cover Nina and Anas growing up story and how different they are. Explain why Nina is cold, calculated and antisocial while Ana is emotional, social and relies on instincts over planning.
>Grown them as characters

Then drop the surprise.... Nina is in the Game too and both of you are being paid to go after the same target (no not a Mishima related target, something crime or political). If they go solo in taking out the target, they get the others cash payout plus the remaining amount they are owed, or they could work together.
>Now the fork in the road decision, go solo Ana, solo Nina, or play as both sisters.
>Three different endings for the 3 different paths.
>Similar levels but with different solutions for how you get through, ensuring replayability.
>Different sabatoge points for if you choose to work solo where the sisters attempt to fuck over the other.

And why did I say nudity? Keep in mind this is a series where in the animated and Live action movie the Williams sisters have had 3somes togther for the right price.
So having it in the game where Nina is so calculated and detached from feelings she'd share a cock with her sister for a job, and Ana is so petty, competitive, and emotional she would try and best her sister at even sex.... that would make for a hell of a story line

Tell me about it. They are seriously missing out by not taking the Metal gear/God of war mechanics formulas and making Erotic Thrillers versions that did gangbusters for Hollywood.

Closest we got to something like this was Heavy Rain which despite it's mechanics sold well.
I know coomer games exist, and there are elements or erotic thriller in actions games like MGS.... but its not the same vibe as the deadly assassin who gives no fucks about using her sexuality and body as a weapon in her arsenal.
It also opens the doors to more complex character exploration and development...
Conflicted feelings
Warped views on relationships
Conflicting signals around intimacy
Being desensitized to things like changing in front of people, and the character dynamics that arise from that.

Ya know what, with as bad as modern writers in gaming suck now.... maybe it's better they don't try and make these.
If they did it would be some weird schizophrenic message one minute about how using your body us empowering, and the next that the male gaze is evil, and the next that we need body pozzitivity.

Funny thing is the femme fatale genre is something that appeals to both men and women.
>Women feel empowered by the powerfantasy of being deadly and using sexuality as a weapon that men cannot access.
>Men get turned on by hot women good at things giving them sex even if its just to use them.
But modern sensibilities make everything retarded, heavy handed dog shit
