Aestetics: 10/10. It's more about a "vibe" than a racing game per se.

In all others been surpassed.

I was never huge on RR's drifting mechanics and suspension emulation.

its one of those games where the aesthetics absolutely carry the game, like yeah it is fun but the presentation is certainly better than the gameplay.

I actually stumbled onto it from listening to music at work. I forget if it was one of those "PS1/N64/Saturn nostalgia" or whatever things, but I heard a song from R4 for the first time there and looked into the game as a result.

Game companies and studios these days have NO IDEA how much a good soundtrack can draw someone in. Sound/audio in general (music, effects, etc) is horribly underrated and underappreciated in video games, I feel.

i have yet to play a racing game with as fun drifting mechanics/physics as R4. every fucking asshole under the sun is shooting for a realistic grip thanks to Gran Turismo. R4 was just trying to be fun and it nailed it incredibly hard

Yep, Ridge 4 breakbeat and "soft" house music is pretty much anchored in late 90s/ early 00s but it IS good music. It deserves more than "nostalgic" music.

They know, the problem they follow the current music and trends (same tha RR4 btw) but current music is TERRIBLE.

iirc there was a debate between GT and RR players.
THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR™ was the biggest racing game ever. Nothing compared to it. Even people who didn't play racing games, played it.
It was SONY biggest game of the year so they pushed it to the moon. It was hard to RR and Namco make an impact but hey, RR4 sold well and made a fandom, so here we are.
