Because boomers.
But I looked up and it seems the ps1 used 10W and PS2 fat used 50W. This is from sticker at the bottom which lists maximum values, so in use it would probably be less most of the time and only hit that occasionally.
Modern LED lamps are around 10W and the incandescent lamps from back in the day varied a hell of a lot, but you could say the average was around 60 or so.

Anon, I personally knew a friend who did this at 7 years old. He would shut off the TV and leave the console on when he had to go out somewhere, so he could come back and instantly start playing.

Look at this >>716457480 it's 360 KB.
Let's say each game save takes 500 KB, you still get to save 36 games. And for a lot of games there's no reason to keep the save after finishing it so you just delete it and go play something else.
I've never ran out of space.

Save files on PS2 were often overbloated as fuck for some reason. Some games have saves take fuckall space even though they had a lot going on. I recall Rayman Revolution taking like a whole megabyte even though there's not that much going on in the save file.

Ah yes. I remember the times when developers could actually code, instead of just dumping every zone in the game into the savefile.
