After David Lynch died I rewatched Twin Peaks and played both Deadly Premonition and Mizzurna Falls. In order, that meant I watched media created in:
>1990
>1992
>2017
>2010
>1998
It's almost like good stories don't age. It's almost like we're still enjoying stories about Arthur and Camelot which are centuries old, or Christcucks with their millennia old Bible. It's almost like a game like SH1 or SH2 will be good and capable of transmiting unique feelings no matter if played in 2001, 2014 or 2025. It's almost like you're a faggot and I'm drunk, OP.

I'd say it's in the same boat as the room for Silent Hill games people hated on release but liked afterwards since they finished and understood it instead of kneejerk hating it.

With the limitations the devs were given from Konami, it was practically the best game it could be. At least it tried something new, wasn't "SH2 but bad" and its soundtrack was neat

The PS2 port ruins the game though. The game is completely designed around the wiimote, from the way the camera works to the way puzzles work to the way you fend off monsters to the phone calls... you get the gist. Simplifying it with a DualShock makes a game that is already lacking in gameplay even worse by taking away the core gimmick it is meant to play off of. Not to count all the graphical downgrades of the port.

I always find fascinating how contemporary critics never seem to realize an industry-changing story is... well, just that until after the fact, years later. Same with movies and The Thing. And when they *do* try to anticipate the hype, like with BioShock Infinite, they fuck up and come across as a laughing stock trying too hard.

I liked those. I also liked Tormented Souls, Signalis, Crow Country and Alisa.

tbf he's definitely singing the praises of the atmosphere and story. Crazy that it still got a 7/10 though, unless they were actually using the whole scale at the time and it wasn't 8/10 means pretty good.

Wonder whether he feels any different nowadays as what I assume is a late 40s early 50s man or if he's still stuck on the same mindset and believes SH was never good

>A more open gameplay structure

Yeah, I thought this too. There's no reason you have to pick as linear a path throughout the map. You could have had it be more about exploration and then maybe some end-dungeons that you always explore in order.
