For "very young children", I have fond memories of "playing" Myst and Riven with my parents when I was like 5-6, we'd all sit at the family computer and talk about the puzzles. My biggest moment was being the first one to suggest sending the tree elevator into the pit to get to the hidden area, I felt very proud realizing I'd noticed something my parents had missed.
Zoombinis was great too, but that's designed for little kids.
As for little kids playing together, good god me and my brother spent a lot of time playing Worms or NfS2 together.
