Outside of the story event, its entirely optional. You won't be able to Wakka's best weapon, though you hardly need those to clear the main story.

also it's very easily cheesed using jecht shot to score then hiding from the ai so then it's just a time sink which makes emulating better for speed up

All "ultimate" weapons are useless, because you can swap and customize the traits on the earlier ones so you can essentially just consider them "skins," and few people choose Wakka as a main party member, and even if you did his is the least visible weapon so yeah, Blitzball is pointless unless you like it.

There's something to be said about drafting and training the right team so that you can sweep blitzball games eventually, but it's alot of work if you don't have a love of the game.

All your player power is really in the Sphere Grid and re-writing it with the erase spheres/putting in stats from the endgame "fight any monster arena" and then Yuna becomes godmode because every summon scales with her stats. She becomes a 12 person army and doesn't struggle against anything but whatever the secret boss is, I forget the name.

I don't remember blitzball being in X-2, that was a lady mode game and you just unlocked the other classes on every girl and followed a guide to make sure you get the good ending because missing one chest or dialogue ruins the plot. Bad design imo, induces anxiety and makes the game work and a movie.

just change movement to manual and blitzball becomes a 10/10 minigame

The forced match was 0 fun, never interacted with blitzball again. Great game but emulate the PS2 version anon, characters literally look lobotomized in the remaster
