"Why don't you just get a real guitar?"
>also having to learn to read music/tablature while also needing to track rhythm on your own
>a shitload more frets spread across six strings with variations in finger placement creating minor differences beyond knowing where to put your fingers in the first place
>having to learn to tune and maintain the damn thing

Homie, it's just a video game. Keep it that way.

there's just this subset of cockrockers who never understood why you would play with a peripheral that looks like a guitar if you didn't secretly wish you could do it for real. everyone i knew back then was a guitarist and most played it. i think the aforementioned cockrockers just got pissy it looked like people would stop learning to play for real if you could get the same buzz there, even though they weren't actually comparable. then kids did stop learning guitar, but that was more because of shifting music trends and bands dying off.

Sports have a lower skill floor that learning an instrument. You can go out and throw a ball around without any instruction or attempt to improve and still have fun, but mashing on an instrument will get you no where without putting in effort to even get started. The real reason someone might play a sports game instead of a real sport is that the game still just a game and is different from the actual sport. My reason for not playing them is that I just think they are boring.

>there has to be thousands of free metronomes
>more frets = more freedom, and once you learn scales you'll always know where you are, the last part of this is essentially complaining that you have to actually touch the instrument to play it
>tuning takes like 2 minutes, tops
>you shouldn't need to do much maintenance beyond occasionally changing strings and adjusting relief (both incredibly easy) unless you live in a literal rainforest
nothing against guitar hero, but these are very week excuses

Anonymous No.716493539 [Report]
If anyone still cares about playing plastic instruments, look into YARG. Vastly superior to Clone Hero, especially if you care about a more Rock Band-like experience. You can easily download the entire GH and RB setlist, and every format of custom song from the past fifteen years is compatible. The nightly version even supports niche shit like the stage kits for lighting and fog machines. Pro instrument support is also in the works (drums already work, but guitar/keys is in dev). Every instrument ever released works if you have a way to connect it to your PC.

Westerners completely misunderstand the concept of rhythm games. It's not meant to be a "simulation" or "training" for the real thing. The premise of the game, be it guitar or dj or whatever popn music is, is just a pretense for the gameplay. You're not supposed to "get something" out of it except for good gameplay.

The reason we play rhythm games is because they are harder and more technical than real instruments and measure player skill more accurately. Western media wants to attach importance to games so they make up false narratives about what they can get you externally. In Japan rhythm games are still going stronger than ever (Beatmania, Taiko, Maimai, etc) because they never tried to think about it as something it's not supposed to be.

If you want to get into rhythm games you can save hundreds of dollars by making your own controller. It's a can of worms people don't want to get into but if you want arcade accurate equipment that's affordable it's the only way. For example you can buy a taiko tatacon for $80-$300 or you can make one for $15. And $80 is on the low end for what a rhythm game controller costs.
