I caught a a Chansey on my last playthrough. 2 missed balls, 1 thrown rock, 3rd ball caught it. I love Safari Zone now.

Bait and Rock were stupid mechanics

HGSS was almost perfect until they introduced real time Lego block mechanics, no one is going to wait 4-6 IRL months for a specific Pokemon

Wild Area and the cringe Paldea DLC area is what Safari Zone should have been

You can catch Chansey the normal way in cerulean cave. Tauros was the only pokemon that could only be found in the torture zone.

HGSS also used the bait and rock mechanics.
The system could have had some depth, but they never bothered to go that far with it. Unironically, (Let's) Go did it nicely with the different kinds of bait with different effects, but I don't know how you'd fit in rocks/moving closer into such a system.
