Well it seems like I’ll be quitting Epoch. After yet another server crash or unexpected restart, it already feels like a waste of time. I've lost hours to crashes and rollbacks, and honestly, I could’ve spent that time doing something more productive or enjoyable. I had considered supporting the server financially — even though this is only my second time seriously trying World of Warcraft — just because I liked the concept and the direction Epoch seemed to be going. But between the instability and not being able to reliably play the game, I think I’ll just hold on to that $100. I really wanted to like this server, but if I can’t even get a consistent experience early on, what’s the point?

I got through the original content just fine without addons, as did millions of other people back in the day

I'd just ignore anyone who demands I use a specific addon or something, unless I'm at endgame content. Don't feel pressured by that stuff, just enjoy the game and learn as you go. There are plenty of tryhards in a rush, but in general, people in dungeon groups tend to be patient and forgiving unless someone's just running in and dying or afk

Some of the stuff on the site seems reasonable enough, but where they seem to decide what to keep at Vanilla, TBC, or WotLK features etc.. seems questionable. They add some new races and class combos (Troll Warlocks etc, Undead Paladins, Dwarf Shaman) , but I'm guessing they don't have playable High / Blood Elves ? Kind of disappointing as some other private servers of this era rebuild them as High Elves that we though we'd get to play etc.

The new Soul of Iron thing (if you make it to 60 without dying are you "done" and keep to keep the rewards including the emote and other rewards even if you die after that point) and the Explorer contract thing seem all right if you can unlock their benefits account wide once you've done them once. I'm also wondering about other faction and varying unlocks. The page goes on a lot about how things have been made harder and grindy and all the rest etc... but that just sounds like tedium if you have to redo it for every character individually; adding this to a game mode where it appears you're encouraged to have multiple alts seems odd without this feature but maybe it has it.

Well it seems like I’ll be quitting Epoch. After yet another server crash or unexpected restart, it already feels like a waste of time. I've lost hours to crashes and rollbacks, and honestly, I could’ve spent that time doing something more productive or enjoyable. I had considered supporting the server financially, even though this is only my second time seriously trying World of Warcraft, just because I liked the concept and the direction Epoch seemed to be going. But between the instability and not being able to reliably play the game, I think I’ll just hold on to that $100. I really wanted to like this server, but if I can’t even get a consistent experience early on, what’s the point?

That's why I know that they talk about class balance being TBC era inspired and they have some WoLK features like the Professions (Enchanter rings, Tailor self embroider buffs, Blacksmith belt buckles etc). I know its 'new" content set in a "Classic+" era (but different/expanded dungeons and raids, lots of other shit).

Also there are other "Classic+" with remade worlds like TurtleWoW that add new races and other shit, or something like Ascension that totally overhauls everything etc, among other many set in either Classic eras with varying levels of custom content. I want to know what makes this one so special and if they managed to avoid some of the pitfalls of tedious bullshit or bad decisions of others.

This server is probably DOA due to not rangebanning China and South America. Why don't private servers ever do this? Are they afraid they'll be called rayciss? South America is literally the main problem right now.
