Would it have succeeded if it was called Psychoshock or Neuroshock instead?

I would've been more likely to buy it when it came out. I had no idea it was an immersive sim and thought the anons calling it amazing were full of shit. Then I played it and realized they were right. But I don't think Prey had any chance of success because immersive sims were on their way out in general. Mankind Divided failed too despite Human Revolution's warm reception.

Come on, man. That's just disingenuous. It was competent. It did a lot of things right. I think the main problems with it was how emotionally hollow it was because of how its setting worked, but the other aspects of it had a lot of thought put into it. Don't just label it as a negative.

He doesn't mean connected literally, he means very plainly associating itself with the System Shock brand, like Bioshock. To people who like these types of games, Bioshock, for instance, tells them what to expect. Prey doesn't. I don't think it ultimately matters, just clarifying his point.

The the record, though, Prey official started development as System Shock 3.

how is a game like this ever going to succeed when gaming has changed so much? people just don't play this kind of game anymore. There's no incentive for a dev to make something like it.

I mean I'm not shitting on this game, I love Prey, I just hate the state of the gaming industry right now and I feel like people like myself have been left behind completely. The types of games I want to play just rarely get made anymore and it fucking sucks.

A problem I have with the enemies is that many of them are samey. Like I never feel like there's that much practical difference between an ethereal phantom, a flaming phantom and an electric phantom, other than what you have to throw at them to counter them. Mimics are cool, although that one scope upgrade removes the most interesting aspect of them, and they have that bullshit dodge if you try to hit them in melee.
Also fuck weavers.

It's fkn painful how true that is.

Prey is a game in which you can ltrl fly,
how many people do you think ever figured that out?

It's genre about creative interaction and people have become too stupid to play it.
BOTW and its sequel atleast have proven that there are some people who would be able to enjoy it.
But the other issue is, that it's not a "must buy" genre.
