the boss is supposed to be a mother who has seen humanity for what it is, which places her above the limited views of her capeshit team. you can argue that going into space and seeing the blue earth DOESNT make you a moral authority, but this isn't real life. she is written to be something of a Superman archetype in that her unique perspective commands respect

Les Enfants Terribles happened because a bunch of people were obsessed with keeping the Big Boss legend alive, it's not really uncommon for people in this game to be obsessed with a REALLY good soldier
That being said, it always felt underwhelming that The Boss was such a big deal but we barely saw her, not saying another game would've solved this, but maybe having some spin-off comic illustrated by Shinkawa about her would've been cool
