FGC talking heads are notoriously shit and tribal, and the biggest tribe defends slop like street fighter 6.

with how inaccessible fighters used to be a lot of new blood got into these games thanks to fgc personalities, and I'm sure that remains true even today

No one plays fighters because they want to in the first place, it's bandwagoning from day 0. Half the SF didn't deserve to live, no MK deserved players, etc.

I won't be able to watch EVO this year because I'm visiting my family.

He's ultimately right, I decided to just start playing alpha 3 on fightcade and, while I'm getting my ass beat, it's a lot of fun. It doesn't need a big resurgence, or some initiative to save it, it's good as is and there's some people who also know it's good so it'll ultimately always be a game I can play.
Same for any fighter, no fighting game with good net play needs a fucking initiative or social media presence, it just needs people playing them. Go play the games that are fun, and stop slobbing on the new thing because the 'fgc' told you to
