So is this the future of game optimization? Just lie about the resolution the game is running at instead of fixing the performance?

The resolution is inconsequential to improving game performance. If you have any performance difference between 720p and 1080p and 2k, then chances are your jeet system was already way too shit to begin with, because resolution only taxes the VRAM and nothing else

higher resolution is more pixels for the gpu to render you fucking retard so it gets incredibly expensive as you go higher dumbass. thats why 4k needs a 5090 to run the latest slop well

you have no idea what you're talking about, lowering the resolution exponentially reduces the amount of pixels that have to be shaded every second

waaaah my 10 year old rig cant play new games and I don't understand tech so my superjunkware filled rig won't run every new game waah
but I'll set everything to 4k anyway

Dude lmao, resolution is the single most consequential setting for performance (generally speaking) even completely ignoring its effect on VRAM.

I do CPU rasterization for all my software, so the resolution actually has a pretty big impact on speed. No, I'm not a jeet, just retarded.
