The Yiik creator was right, the average gamer is too stupid for video games to have rich stories. All of the criticism of Yiik was about how awful and annoying Alex was as a protagonist, when that was the whole point of his character. He learns to become a better person by the end of the game. The dead naming crow was also forced controversy

YIIK was released too early, back then indie game culture was pandering to gay twee millenial nostalgia and that's what players expected of the game. It could have become a legitimate cult classic if it released this year thanks to the rise of schizo webcore zoomers. "Nobody cares about your dead sister" would be viewed as a hilarious nihilistic comeback instead of bad character writing.

"Nobody cares about your dead sister" is actually Alex beating himself up as HE has a dead sister that seems to be the root of a lot of his issues (along with Michael)

Funny thing is that I remember this game way more than a lot of indies, made me smile and laugh more too
I really wanted this game to have good gameplay, it would have excused the story so much
