3's factions are fairly middling. Chorfs are neat, and some of the LLs for previous factions have some cool additions.

Kislev and Cathay play okay (ironically, getting the Slaanesh units if you do Miao's corruption mod actually helps with Cathay's unit variety, since fast flankers and offensive AP infantry is something they lack), but most of the Daemon factions are kinda iffy. Skarbrand is fun if you just want to shut your brain off and watch your LL just annihilate entire enemy armies. Kairos gets stronger eventually (he's probably one of the most potent campaign LLs in the game once he's leveled up a bit and will carry the whole campaign) but Tzeentch units (especially without DLC) are just complete ass and the Kairos starting position will teach you to hate liggers with a burning passion. N'kari is cool and FAST but his whole campaign is nothing but fighting helfs and the campaign mechanic of seduction is both broken and boring. Never done the fat green blob, but Tamurkhan is another "I can't believe they thought this was okay to have" campaign that can be fun to steamroll through.

He is one of only two Legendary Lords who can cast a Cataclysm Spell in Immortal Empires thanks to the Mirror of Madness body parts (that nobody unlocked).
He also has a huge roster.
Plus, his skill tree gives him a relationship boost with all factions so you can be friendly even with non-demons, which Nurgle Khorne and Tzeentch can't do.

He is very fun to play, he just has no overcomplicated mechanics where you gather fingernails to climb the pyramid of fingernail rewards.

If you want a vanilla campaign with no bullshit, he's a good choice.

Slaanesh is not an easy faction to play, especially if you don't yet know how to play, you need to micro it all the time
your daemonettes are essentially cavalry that are only good at buttrape, the playstyle is pretty similar to Bretonnia in that your frontlines might as well don't exist and you NEED to rotate all the time otherwise you will just die
it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it though

Every faction has their wizards, but day to day life is still incredibly mundane. The bigger difference with Warhammer Fantasy is that many of the factions are going through the early stages of an industrial revolution or have already done so to some extent. The Empire is the HRE during the height of the Renaissance period, the dwarves have fucking trains and flying machines, the skaven are probably the most technologically advanced. The downside for the Skaven though is that OSHA doesn't exist, and they wouldn't listen to it anyway because killing half of the work force is intentional.

I do want CA to take a crack at Total Warhammer 40k.

When it comes to diplomacy, that is a little bit more problematic in fantasy world due to personalities, ties and history between characters. They should give "AI" a try, it seems like the only option to expand diplomacy in fantasy universe.
