Shmups

Even though the spinning medals in 3 is a nice change, 2 is still peak Strikers 1945.

I got memed into Yagawa autism, specifically Batrider right now.
My pb is the last phase of the final boss so far and I'm consistent enough at reaching the last stage, so I'm just playing runs daily until I finally 1cc.

You know, as fun as the gameplay is, Strikers 1945 III suffers from the same problem. Poor sound, boring planes art, which is why I prefer II.

Still waiting for the asshole who is putting together a controller for me with Sanwa parts so I can finally get back to arcade games. 1945 I and II are among my targets for at least completing the first loop on normal without using continues.

>>717000909
I didn't like UFO50. My biggest problem is that the games are literally modern indie games. It's not an attempt to create an old simulacrum, but an attempt to create 50 modern games that look like old games, like Shovel Knight or other games without much depth do.

My time is too valuable, I can't spend it building arcade sticks.
And I chose Sanwa for Tetris Grandmaster 4 due to the adjustable restrictor. However, I have my doubts as to whether it's worth opening it up to rotate the restrictor every fucking time. For Tetris Grandmaster to work properly, you need a 4-way stick, but rotating the plastic piece every time I play something other than Tetris, or Pac Man, or whatever else, is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

Anonymous No.717007083

If I were to make one, I would try:

1. Make the movement of the ship/character respond well to the controls (many shoot 'em ups fail at this most basic point, such as the terrible Sky Force series).

2. Add types of enemies that work together well (older shoot 'em ups used to launch waves of the same enemies at the player, which makes the experience much shallower).

3. Levels should always have action. (in games like Gunbird 1, you can kill enemies quickly once you memorize the levels, and the screen ends up empty in several places)

4. Levels should be well designed and challenging, in addition to the bosses

5. Bosses should be fun

6. There should be a training mode for levels and bosses

7. There should be a game mode that shuffles the pieces for when the player has mastered the game but wants to continue experimenting with it in less "serious" way

8. Sexy women and lots of nudity and bouncing boobs

Stage 3 first half requires a good laser if anything.
Second half is only slightly more tight, but I can do it consistently enough with Leinyan so w/e.
Stage 4 platforms are always an issue for any ship that's not B-S and B-Ex, but the trick is playing very aggressive. Rails shouldn't be an issue with A-S specifically, but the randomness can always fuck you up.
Stage 5 will definitely be tougher after the first midboss, but the other half can be done without many issues. Though you are playing Shotia so just press B here.

Which shmup is the most lenient in terms of "being able to comeback" after a death? Some just outright strip you 100% off your max power and leave you with 1 level as collectible out of 4-5 to reach max again, while facing late-stage segments.

Speaking of CAVE, you can usually tell their games apart at a glance, but Ketsui is a notable exception in the sense that it looks a lot like Dodonpachi. Why is that?

I really like Progear, but it is my first CAVE shump so I had to credit feed a lot at the end. Love everything about it, but the music could had been better. It should get an anime adaptation.

Dangun Feveron is cool but it gets old quick and the bullets are too fast
