I got mine yesterday, i have been playing DK, honestly i think people have been kinda overrating it so far. Like yeah it is fun, but i have seen people call it better then SMO and im not feeling that, i have been taking my time and just reached the Resort Layer, so hopefully it gets more engaging.

my only gripe with the switch 2 is that there are barely any switch 2 game upgrades for switch 1 games so far
please tell me devs will actually take a minute of their time to edit the files of their games to raise the framerate/resolution caps

The big question is how locked down they are about files on that subscription app. Does the format restrict them from adding the same functionality the 3DS classic Pokemon releases had where the saves could be manipulated so they could transfer mons to the modern games? Who knows.

The frustrating thing is, we are FINALLY going to get some Pokemon RPGs on the service with Colosseum/XD but since those aren't actually Game Freak developed, I feel like I wouldn't be surprised if they are just gonna dump those and not offer any sort of transfer anyway. They also did Pokemon Stadium with no GB connectivity which is awkward (even if I did have fun beating Round 1 with just rentals a while ago) but not that out there.

I agree with you fully and I think a lot of people think like this. Initially something looked off and the game trailer seemed kind of boring. But then you actually play it and find out that it is fun, has great characters, handles the open world well, and has so much content it may just be the biggest Nintendo game. The DK redesign quickly grows on you. The soft reboot of his world also feels like the perfect synergy between his history and the new direction Nintendo is going in. The game is already really popular and will surely only grow from there, more than fulfilling Nintendo's likely desire to increase Donkey Kong's popularity. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if we see a sequel as the game is built in a really good way for it with its modularity, layers, and the creativity stuff like the Bananza forms and armored enemies allow.

tldr: The game is surprisingly good and solves the problems many games have been dealing with with open worlds and procedural mechanics. Hopefully more will learn from this instead of mindless aping.

I feel like a Donkey Kong pack is planned as a DLC. Characters such as Cranky and Diddy. They'll also add new characters like teen Pauline and maybe a Fractone. All dlc characters will have outfits and I could see Donkey Kong and Pauline potentially getting new outfits since they have like one each. Maybe there will be a second island of tracks too. If they were just put on the regular Game Boy NSO app, then yes probably. They could diasble the save state function but the app still has cloud saving. Maybe there could be a workaround by making it so when you transfer something to Home, it forcibly updates the cloud save. But even that could be gotten around by having a duped save on a different console if you really want to clone a bunch of Mewtwo.

The simplest fix would just be make a new NSO app for the Pokémon games. Like how some N64 games are on the N64 18+ app to get around age restrictions. If some of the emulator coders are feeling generous they could add connectivity to Stadium and the like, but I'm prepared to be disappointed on that front.

The current approach to retro games is, at minimum, an excuse to put out an advertisement every month or so, and to justify the financial side, you almost have to assume the revenue from NSO outweighs the revenue they expect from selling ROMs outright. Normalfags only like the idea of retro games, not the act of playing them, and that's what they're being sold.

It just comes at the cost of being able to purchase these games for what they're actually worth, and the emulators don't have nearly the amount of care put into them that you would expect of the original hardware / software manufacturer. Because, really, the product isn't for people who care about vidya.

Maybe it's just for accepting Mystery Gifts or trading, people always forget that Legends Arceus had trading, but Link Play sounds misleading if it's only that. After finishing Bananza and trying a few third party games, I realised that third party devs were never going to optimise their games for the switch 2 so we can get 60fps like Nintendo does. I’m only going to buy first party from now, buy a Ps5 pro and play third party there instead. The switch 2 did remind me why consoles are so comfy though, just plug and play on my massive oled, was getting tired of working 8 hours behind my desk from home and then continuing pc gaming on the same desk.

Very happy to have an ex-CiNG Smallkino game so early in the Switch 2 life cycle. I really hope this isn't the end of this type of thing. But I'd love a real game like Hotel Dusk where it uses all the Switch 2 features. I even remember seeing a part before a movie at a theater advertising all the ways you could play as strong princesses on the Switch, I think this was around the time that Peach game was releasing. This is a bit strange although I don't think it is much of a problem because they don't make it overbearing and are still willing to do the classic Mario saved Peach story occasionally.

As for Donkey Kong, I could totally see them having requested the team to specifically feature a female secondary protagonist to sort of even it out. Now Donkey Kong has a more action ready form of Pauline that can be used for the more female purpose. It doesn't even stop here though, because her being a teen specifically may have something to do with this all too.

They'd of course decide on a human character because a female Kong or Dixie or something wouldn't really be too appealing. Pauline already would be a good choice as they've been wanting to use her more recently. However, it would only really work the good way it does if he hauled her around as her standing around and stuff wouldn't work with the game loops nor be as logical. If it is to be believed they want female characters to appear stronger however, having DK carry around a woman the whole game may not be the best option. So they made her a teen, old enough to still act adult in many ways to help lead the story, yet still young enough that it is considered more acceptable for her to be carried around.

Of course,more of her character flourished out from this point as they developed her. Her youthful spunk means it also fits in for her to be doing all the goofy jumps and Kong poses to which helps her feel even more protagonisty. Her being sort of like an idol singer also contrasts while with DKs brute strength. A sort of happy result of this all if it is to be believed

I thought of this afterwards too. Giving the characters more personality means more merchandise to be sold and more game opportunities. They are also doing similar stuff with all characters in general now with reinventing them and giving them deeper personalities. Nintendo wants as many characters as possible to be able to hold things on their own, it is sort of like upgrading a property in Monopoly.
