I thought Wonderful 101 was super fun, had an engaging, hilarious and soulful story with an excellent final chapter that really cranks up the spectacle and features the single greatest QTE in gaming history
That was on the first playthrough, but the more I played it the more I despised it and its hamfisted minigames that aren't even polished and felt like no playtested them, retarded level design, awful perspective and idiotic camera
But just as equally I know people adore it as their favourite game
Try it out for at least one playthrough and see how you go, it is unique if nothing else

Still have to play Ragebound proper but I loved the demo. Wanted to finish up pic related first. It's a very by-the-books beat-em-up in a good way and every stage has something unique about it that keeps it fresh. Good for the price if you like the genre, and the music is surprisingly above-average. Portia is busted, 1cc'd with her and never dipped below the starting life total.

Bros I'm getting filtered by Rhyvashi. The most insane thing is that the challenge for this stage is to not get hit by her but I can't dodge a full wave of her lightning bombs for the life of me, I always get hit by the second one on-landing or hit by the lightning strike as I'm jumping away since I cornered myself. I can't imagine restarting the whole stage if I actually wanted to S ranks the stage.

Currently playing NGS2, with the Black mod. It's really fun and feels great to play but it seems like the mod creator decided to up the bullshit at points. I was stuck on Chapter 3 on Mentor, towards the end, in a tunnel where a ton of golden Van Gelfs spawn on both ends and then sit back spamming fireballs. It was so dumb I went online to check how other players did it on the regular NG2 version only to find out that even on Master Ninja that section spawned lower tier Van Gelfs, not just golden ones, and their AI was much less spammy with fireballs.
On the other hand, I feel like the mod broke the werewolves AI. They're very passive and barely attack.
I'll eventually have to get a cheap series S to play both NG1 Black and the original NG2.

Dark Souls has deep combat.

I don’t care if someone gets upset. Rise of the Ronin is a terrible game. The combat itself is simple with an addictive hook and the default ass female character is kawaii but thats it. The game plays exactly like Assassin’s Creed yes I have played one of those before so I know what I’m talking about. Down to the dialogues and mission complete header and sound effect, it is exactly like Assassin’s Creed. And that’s pretty fucking sad considering Team Ninja is copying a Western company trying to make a Japanese game instead of making a Japanese game as a Japanese team. I hate to say it but the game is soulless. Play Nioh 2

I played DMC2 for the first time recently, being open minded and thinking that maybe other people are exaggerating how bad it is. They did exaggerate, it's probably one of the most greatest games I've played. I must have been confused 80-90% of the time about what was happening since the game kept jumping everywhere, suddenly teleporting into a cave with a moth boss, kill him and acting like it never happened, learning the girl was kidnapped only the instant I teleported into the bad guy's base somehow, then acting like we'll somehow find a way to get in even though the game just skip-cutscene-teleported me in there, only to then get randomly mindfucked by 3 floating heads boss, kill him and Dante acts like it never happened, somehow learning the girl was a demon begging for forgiveness from something I have no clue about and only learning that at the end. People did exaggerate the infested tanks and helicopter however, they only appeared once in the game.

It’s not just the open world, when you finish a mission in RotR the Mission Completed header in gold font pops up with a sound effect. They copied this exact thing from Assassin’s Creed. They copied the homework that was wrong. Like I said it’s a Japanese company copying a Western company making a Japanese game. Ronin’s combat is pretty shallow and repetitive compared to Nioh but its way better than AssCreed combat yeah

Itsuno was never capable of replicate the magic of the original DMC1.
The fact every single tool/weapon has a purpose in the game, is the main reason DMD never got better than in DMC1.
Nightmare is wonderful and one of the most unique bosses ever, DMC1 will actively punish you if you are playing wrong and Nightmare has no mercy, all the orbs will carry the amount of attacks and damage received into the next battle, break too many orbs, make yourself the whole battle even harder.

Bayonetta is a good frame of reference for a what if DMC2 was made by Kamiya, and man I have to say, shame we don't live in a world where Kamiya is creating more adventures for Dante.

Anyone else tried the new Shinobi demo? I was hesitant about the game at first since it looked very different from old Shinobi games gameplay-wise, and it is, but I ended up liking the demo a lot. It's pretty much a straight up 2D action game instead of a 2D action platformer like the older games. I think character action is a dumb term but it did feel like I was playing something like a 2D DMC or platinum game, so I guess 2D character action would be a fitting way to describe it.

I’m a bit amazed watching someone write a defensive paragraph trying to explain how Assassin’s Creed is better than Dark Souls. That’s fine if that’s how you feel. I'm a massive Shinobifag and I loved the demo. It still has quite a bit of platforming, especially for optional stuff.

The series is somewhat varied anyway, so being distinct doesn't bother me. I miss the grittier art direction of the Genesis games, though.

You must be young because Asscreed is the perfect comparison to dark souls. There was a time when people thought every game should be more like asscreed and they eventually got their wish. When the first 2 games came out they were really exciting because there was nothing else like them and then everybody in the industry copied them to the point that people started to beg for linear games again. Same thing is happening to soulslike games. Very exciting at first now is industry standard. I recently played Stellar Blade and Wukong and groaned when I realized I'd be on the defensive for boss fights with parrying, rolling, bonfires, no juggles, no canceling out of moves, etc. It is all getting old and From won't be the ones to innovate they finally found their cashcow so they won't fuck with the formula too much.

Dodge roll in a sidescroller is just wrong and I don't like it. Fortunately, I didn't really feel it was necessary 99% of the time. Haven't played hard yet though.
