The thing about the first movie is that it had very little connection to the people actually writing and storyboarding the show. It was handled mostly by Paramount, which was a separate company at the time. While the show was handled by Viacom, specifically Nickelodeon under it.
Paramount wanted a different Neptune to go with Mindy, and they got it.

Fun fact, this is also why Plankton's voice is different in the Japanese dub of the movie as compared to the dub of the show. Being more in line with Doug Lawrence's portrayal in the movie, and a totally unfitting, squeaky voice in the show.

Paramount really likes the idea of making a Squidward show that's explicitly intended for Millennials, and Rodger Bumpass is really enthusiastic about it himself, but none of the pitches ever survive the development process.

As for a game, you could have a Krusty Krab management sim crossed with a Balatro-style roguelike. Where Squidward's level head and narcissism clash with the general irrationality and notorious aggression of the Bikini-Bottomites. Frame it as Mr. Krabs giving Squidward a shot at a better position.
Inevitably, Squidward fails, because it never ends, but there's always an extenuating circumstance that makes Mr. Krabs give him another chance. And his successes don't go unnoticed, which is where your progression comes in.

It even justifies the goals getting more and more difficult with each cycle. Mr. Krabs is getting greedier as Squidward does better.

It was pretty gradual, and he kept compensating by going higher, until about 2016. Then he went off a cliff. That's also when he stopped taking roles in absolutely everything and got a lot more selective. A lot of the voices he's known for are obviously pretty hard on him. That's the difference between voice actors who nail a single performance for their whole career, and those who aren't able to stick with it.
Kevin Conroy's Batman and Peter Cullen's Optimus Prime are examples of the former. Those performances weren't as fantastical, and as a result, they don't wear their voices out, even over a long time.

Not that it's impossible to do voices like that for a long time and stay the same, Frank Welker and Steve Blum are proof of that. But out of all the roles Tom Kenny has ever taken, maybe a handful of them were "easy."
Just compare him to Bill Fagerbakke, Doug Lawrence and Rodger Bumpass.
Bill Fagerbakke's "decline" is mostly due to direction and the flanderization of Patrick as a character. There was a recent episode of the Patrick show where he happened to deliver a line that sounded exactly like he did in Tea at the Treedome.
Rodger Bumpass has always given more or less the same performance regardless of role, he sounds the same as the Chief from Carmen Sandiego as he does as the mosquito from A Bug's Life, and as Squidward.
And Doug Lawrence also usually sounds the same, but the only taxing parts of his roles are usually when his characters are screaming, which isn't nearly as bad of a duty cycle as Tom Kenny gets.

There are only two. The Cosmic Shake, and the shovelware Patrick Star Game. The Cosmic Shake is a competent 3D platformer built on the remake of BfBB. It has humor that feels a lot like the earlier seasons of the show. Notable for the makes much better use of "Gross-Up" paintings than the show has in a long time.

Patrick Star Game is just SpongeBob themed Goat Simulator. It's cheap, janky and really shallow, but it also leans into that role. It might be fun if you have a soft spot for that kind of game.

I'd recommend you start with BfBB, the original or the Remake, it doesn't really matter, as much as some people say. Both are competent. The original has an art style that's closer to the show, and it runs slightly better.

I think it's a matter of preference between Carlos and Tom. If you want more of that Radical Mascot Energy with a little harshness, you prefer Carlos. If you want Spyro to be smooth, carefree and aloof, you prefer Tom.

Elijah Wood seemed to be phoning it in, at least in the first game, which is the only one I played, to tell you the truth. I did not care for it. And I feel like the money they spent on Elijah Wood and David Spade could have gone to better use to give the game another month or two of development time.

It's got some "WE'VE COME TO STOP THE REVIEW!!" energy so be warned, but one of my favorite things related to Spongebob vidya is this nearly decade old video of one guy with actual gamedev experience tearing the horrid 2nd movie tie-in game a new one for long enough that it can be legally classified as a movie

They picked the best thing to resuscitate really. Everyone has good things to say about BFBB, it's not a majorly expensive genre, the only "story" needs to be the setup and reasons to go places, and as long as you have solid mechanics it's fun. They have been experimenting like with that Patrick game, but in general I'm glad they're still making these things because BFBB was fun to replay via Rehydrated and getting Cosmic Shake was also fun.
