It's not about speed. It's about a more stable connection:

- Less interference than wireless, so fewer disconnects or spikes
- Consistent speeds: no bandwidth drops due to walls, distance, or other devices
- Lower packet loss: data reaches servers more reliably, improving gameplay accuracy
- Overall better for multiplayer: split-second actions register more precisely

others have a funny assortment of walls and utilities in their way that make their connection ass at random times, JUST enough to fuck with their connection due to how the software using the internet is handling things.

Good luck trying to find a landlord that lets you run cables everywhere.
Also most landlords tend to lock the router behind a door you cant access so you cant fuck with it.
In my case, my landlord subdivided our property so he had to move our internet router to our neighbour's house. We lose internet every time she closes the curtain.

I know you're joking but Wi-Fi doesn't actually stand for anything. The "Wi" hints at "wireless" and the "fi" hints at "fidelity" but it was literally just chosen as a term for a wireless standard because it's catchy, and not because it is meant to mean those things. I'm serious.

Vanity or because it's a negligible price increase from a baser package. Bandwidth is getting incredibly cheap, so a lot of ISPs have a pricing structure something like
200/200 for $50
500/500 for $60
940/940 for $70
2G/2G for $80
and so on.
So many retards conflate speed and bandwidth. Faster internet means less latency. Connecting via ethernet with a fiber ISP that isn't third-world tier is the best way to do that.
50Mbps and 5,000Mbps will both be the same "speed"

that's what brings the internet into your house, the phone line.
Ethernet ports in your house would come off the router. In newer houses the router tends to have its own dedicated port in the electrical closet and the house would have the Ethernet wiring built in already meaning all you'd have to do is swap out the router depending on who you have as an ISP, but I'll assume yours is an older build so the router needs to be freestanding. If you're lucky your house might 1. have landline ports already built in, and 2. it's at least Cat5e (which if your house was built in this century, it almost certainly would). If you have those ports, you could track down where those wires all merge so they could be hooked up to the phone back when people had landlines, and instead set your router up there.

if you're unlucky and have none of this, you'll have to either custom-wire the walls, have snakes running around out in the open like a hacker cave, or just live with WiFi.

because your apartment complex/council estate has a deal with the ISP where they get a monopoly on every resident, and in exchange the cost is subsidised by all the residents. most Americans live in private single-family homes so you'll have like 4 different ISPs serving customers on one street. Meaning you have to cover the costs of all your data by yourself. economies of scale, and all that. Apartment complexes here have similar deals with ISPs, so tend to be cheaper as a result.

whether the ISP has laid fibre or not is irrelevant to their ability to price gouge. I have actually studied this, and looked into where and why some areas get it and some don't. and it is very consistent that the places that do get it are the places served by overhead cables (where permissions are much easier to acquire) and the places that have underground cable don't.
>hey, we're gonna ask permission to lay fibre, be sure to deny us when we do
is a nonsensical suggestion that you just made up. in fact, where I live, only AT&T has fibre, and they're the biggest and most monopolistic ISP in the region. directly contrary to what you're proposing is happening. The other smaller competitors haven't been able to get permission to lay fibre because whereas AT&T runs theirs through overhead lines using telephone pole right-of-way they've had since the McKinley administration, the other competitors have to use underground lines because they can't touch the power lines. surprise surprise, they don't have permission to dig up public property, they're only allowed to fiddle with it when the city has already dug up the roads for maintenance reasons. and this is exacerbated when those lines run under private property (which they often do), because to get to your house they have to pass under the lawns of 5 other houses on your street. and if even one of those homeowners denies permission to dig, then you're SOL.

How come you ignored the part about lobbying to make competition/municipalities impossible? Like when they lobby legislation through that says a municipality is only allowed if there's no other means of broadband available, which sounds like an if not fair then reasonable compromise. Until you realize the definition of broadband is horribly antiquated (20 mbps) and satellite internet reaches most of the US. Doesn't matter that it caps at 25 mbps. Or demands that a municipality has to be able to turn a profit from day one (impossible for practically any business), otherwise it's unfair competition.
