I might still prefer D7 because of its humor and the fact it's Disgaea but I think the number of generics is great, the postgame picks are pretty good with characters like Priere returning, and Mad Rat is there as DLC. If Disgaea 8 follows the trend of increasing the generic count and returning cameos, it could be real nice. As far as the 3D goes, it works fine this time, although I do miss the expressive sprites of the original. Admittedly, most scenes being VN type stuff is kind of disappointing, but it's been that way for some time. At least there are some on-map cutscenes.
I still think Disgaea plays better, but that's not really the fault of PB2 as it takes from PB1. I've seen complaints about how you can't break the game as much anymore but for what it's worth I found the campaign very enjoyable, dragged on a bit though. Weapon fusion does seem pretty fucking useless since you can just steal, sell and then buy better stuff or however it works.
