I like angst as long as it's not going too far, even her most intense moment of wanting to sacrifice herself is still directed to herself, hate being internalized rather than externalized is a more underestandable type of angst on my book. Maybe it's because I watch a shit-ton of true crime with weird people but it reminded me of a story with self-harm themes. In general I like Vega because her type of story is not the norm in Umamusume, it's not something easily "relatable" but more they depicted it in a way that you still can sort of understand where she's coming from, kinda like someone with a metal illness, you might not 100% understand what they feel, but you can relate to pain in a way, yes angst can be a bit cheesy but fuck I'm willing to lower my guard to a point. Her background's okay, but it shouldn't be the sole driving force of the character from start to finish. She didn't have much growth in RTTT because the focus had to be split three-ways (somewhat; Opera got the shortest time in the spotlight) and it really dragged the whole story down because it offered no contrast to Top Road's struggle. There wasn't much catharsis to be had with Vega's bit because her "trauma" is more deep-rooted and required slow progression and more screen time for her to believably get through it. That's the problem with doing heavy themes and not putting in enough effort to make the character grow out of it. Imagine if S2 had Teio just completely isolate herself for 10 episodes and just crying like a motherfucker about her broken leg. It would just be exhausting.

They should've just made Vega the central focus of RTTT because her end of the story needed a high contrast like Opera O's character to even the emotional rollercoaster out.
