Language they use is very simple, if not model for learning the language but the grid based strategy gameplay, and the conversation mini-game might make it a bit of a bitch compared to regular VNs (I wouldn't even categorize it as VN because of this system)
The game at least let's you savescum though, even if you knew the language you'd need to savescum sometimes because conversation mini-game is basically a guessing game.

Everybody makes the same mistake the first time where they fuck up the route by trying to be nice to everyone and ending up with no one. Focus on one girl and let all the other bitch rot, after the ending do new game+ to recover the other.
If you're a gamer enough you could manage 2-3 girls at once and get both endings by save/loading at the last day, but I think that fucks up with the pacing, and the amount you have to read won't change much anyways so it's not that much of a time-saver.

Color represents a topic that the girl wants to talk about, number represents phases, HML represent rank. Up arrow is a conversation that'll bring you up the rank, down arrow is a trap topic that'll bring you down the rank.
If you miss a topic whilst in L the mini-game ends, if you managed to clear past phase 5 you'll get an affection point (if you have enough affection, being at H at phase 5 will give you an option to unlock an event, which is something you need to bring the relationship to the next stage).
You're supposed to guess the topic via the order the topics are laid out, but that sheet straight up tells you what to pick.

It's not a bad adaptation (except Rihoko route) but playing the game is a far better experience as they speed run each route in a 4 episodes.
It's kind of a pointless adaptation when the game was highly accessible to Japs (if not more so than anime where you have to watch it on late-night TV), on top of the game being a massive hit.

First you should learn how to spell it, and then you should do Tae Kim if you're an ESL, or Japanese the Manga way if this is your first foreign language. Both cover the basics, then you can look up anything you come across that's confusing in the Dictionary of Japanese Grammar. The best way to get good at grammar is to read, you really don't need that much of a foundation, if you're reading something incorrectly the sentence won't make sense.
