Just check the map if you get lost. The map actually tells you where to go with all the lines and stuff drawn on it. If there's nothing drawn on the door then you haven't even tried it.

It's only tough the first time. After you've finished the game once, you realise that the game really subtly hints at where to go. Like, there'll be a light that shows the right way or a door is open.
If you're stuck and frustrated, just check a guide to see where you have to go next.

Bookmarked it, thanks. Dunno how soon I'll get around to beating it once, though, I have to check the map almost every minute and it just feels hopeless. Might finish it by the time Silent Hill f comes out, might not.

My nig. When I was a kid, I had a single file that went over 10 hours due to how many times I replayed stages and the final battle, and then I noticed my save got wiped. Coincidence, at 10 hours exactly? After that, I only wiped my old save after each clear and started a new file, just to be safe. I had 101%, too, which sucked to lose.
