Hail to the new king of budget controllers, the Gamesir Tegenaria Lite, coming it at $20.
>very good rubber membrane d-pad and buttons
>rubber membrane analog triggers
>strong, full sized rumble motors
>grippier thumbsticks than Sony's own offerings
>doesn't feel cheaply made despite the price
And while it's permanently wired, if you have a soldering iron and an $0.30 USB-C female port, you can upgrade it to a replaceable wire. The shell suggests it's supposed to be a USB-C controller and we just got its floor model first.

>it's permanently wired
Absolutely no reason to do that in the current year.
It's true that chinks dominate the gamepad market these days, but shell out 60 bucks and you'll get an amazing controller like pic related.
>all buttons are mechanical, nice and clicky
>Hall effect sticks
>wireless, with a USB-C port

I have two M30s, an early one and a recent Xbox one with 4 buttons on top.
I did that as well with the early model. I cannot with the new model because the hole is quite different. It sits too tight and the d-pad won't practically move once assembled. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking. I don't know if it "improves" on anything to change that. At least the buttons don't rattle as much.
Anonymous No.717069923
>>717069079
There's no scam going, it's just a different type of technology being used. TMR is basically hall effect with higher resolution. People complained that some hall effect sticks weren't as precise, TMR is supposed to be the fix for that. They offer lower power consumption and lower latency, but in measures so small nobody gives a fuck really.

Also I might add, sure you can fit a smaller ball in there, but then it won't reach the board, so you will be still able to press on the whole d-pad (just less), making it not worth modding. But personally I've gotten used to no pivot.
Anonymous No.717070175 >>717070327
>>717070012
>>717069801
And to add some more autistic facts, you can use the older model d-pad on the newer, but that doesn't fix the issue because somehow the way it's all put together, the distance between the piece where the ball sits and the board is ever so slightly different. It'll allow you to use the same size, but instead of not being able to move the d-pad, you'll only be able to move it to where directions stick at times, making it also worthless. I guess, if you take the newer d-pad and drill or sand that hole down with some precision, you can achieve the intended result, but no doubt not having to fucking do that is better.

Yep, it unfortunately does.
The dpad gets stuck on those so if you try to input diagonal you'll get either if the 2 directions but not both. Unless you press it really hard so it registers.

I play FGs and lots of 2D platformers, some of which require diagonal movement for specific stuff. First off, in any FG I tried, I couldn't get qcf/qcb etc comfortably. Then in platformers I also had to consciously press hard to get the input and suffered when jump + diagonal was needed.

The design (ergonomics?) for 8bitdo controller's are typically really good, but the build quality could be a lot better, I've broken the rear shoulder buttons twice with the pro2. Their snes controllers are a bit better because there's less to break and it's a generally sturdy design. They've had issues with software in the past too if I recall correctly, apparently a good few people managed to brick their controllers somehow because of it. Customer support/returns is pretty good, but they expect you to pay for your own shipping to send it to them (they don't ask money to ship it back to you at least) and depending on where you live there's a good chance you have to send it overseas which costs a bit.

No. An octagonal gate doesn't remove any analog function from the stick, it just adds notches to the plastic outer shell so you can direct the movement precisely which makes it more accurate to control in 3D space.

It's useful for me specifically in old platformers and especially in Zelda where Goron rolling has to be done in an exact direction during certain points in the game and a smooth ring has never allowed me to actually complete those segments comfortably.

Chasing Sony/Microsoft stick style, mostly. For the first parties it might also be a matter of tiny cost cutting because convex stick caps need taller sticks for the same range of motion. PS1, PS2 and PS3 stick caps are quite tall because of how big the stick toppers are for a similar range of motion to modern controllers.

If you want domed sticks on pretty much any modern controller, look at Extremerate's Dualsense Edge stick cap clones, they include tall and short dome toppers same as with the DSE accessories box.

Off the top of my head it's a combination of L3/R3 buttons being bad for stick durability, shunting off calibration or automatic calibration to the console OS instead of an inbuilt feature of the controller (the PS2 controller in particular has an extremely robust auto-calibration pretty much any time it's powered on and you move the sticks around), and parts are simply less durable than they were in the 90s and '00s.

How good are these controllers really? Are third party controllers still trash?
I still have my DS4 and Steam controller. I also have iBuffalo SNES controller which is just like a original SNES controller and it was only $10

Third party controllers haven't been irredeemable garbage since the Xbone/PS4 days
Buttons and d-pads tend to be a bit of a toss-up but they're still not controllers you'd only give your little brother like they used to, some are competitive with old Nintendo and Sony offerings in feel and accuracy, 8bitdo in particular is trending towards Playstation Vita or GBA SP styled membrane-over-dome switch d-pads in recent years

You'd be lucky to find a used one for that price.
The reason why chinks are dominating high-tier gamepads is that every major manufacturer is actively trying to jew you. They're selling "elite" gamepads for hundreds of dollars with features that every single 30-dollar chinkpad has, yet no one ever thinks of using Hall effect sticks because they would be too reliable, and these gamepads are meant to wear down and break, even the "elite" ones. They'd rather come up with retarded magnetic stick replacement modules and sell them to you for a premium.
If you respect yourself, don't buy first-party gamepads.

Same or better usually. Mechanical vs. rubber is entirely based on preference. Tegenaria Lite at $20 is made of sturdier feeling plastic than the Dualshock 4 was at $50 brand new.

It does have some minor latency issues but nothing noteworthy, pretty much in line with the better manufacturers out there and the hardware itself is top notch and made to last.

Gamesir is pretty great as far as Chinese gaming stuff companies go, they really don't deserve to be associated with jeet memes just because "sir" is part of their stupid probably-translated name. That's practically giving the jeets credit for competent changwork.

I'm just saying it's ridiculous that you're trying to market to me a product that requires soldering to be decent. I'd rather pay $40 for a full product than pay $20 for something that I need to finish manufacturing at home.

But the weird part is that you're describing the soldering gimmick as if it was a feature of the controller. "It even lets you solder it!!". Really?

If it's so cheap and easy why don't they solder it at the factory?

Wish I'd known about this one when I was shopping for a cheap chinkshit controller.
I got a PDP XBone clone controller, but I generally prefer the look and feel of a Playstation controller.

I got an old PS4 controller floating around, but DS4Windows never seems to really work that well, that or the controller itself is worn out, or both together.
The camera control never feels right in Elden Ring, for example.

I tend to like Asymmetric just because it is more comfy for my left hand, and I can claw grip the right side if I need a finger on a face button and a thumb on the stick still.
The WiiU controller was the most comfy, but you couldn't claw grip to control the right stick and face buttons at once.
