The books weren't even canon under Bungie. Books didn't become canon until 2011 when Microsoft took over and tried that everything is canon and important strategy which they killed after Halo 5 because it was so bad and went back to the books doing nothing for the games again starting with Infinite. This new strategy set up with Infinite isn't changing under Halo Studios, btw.

Nearly all of the halo books are decent reads if you are into sci-fi already. Doesn't matter that the authors other books may be completely forgettable. Not everything needs to be a blockbuster.

they were the only books i was reading back in the day, including ones i was supposed to be reading for school. i do prefer the later ones also. the authors had a lot more to sink their teeth into as more games came out. i mean the novels 100% remained better than halo 4 and 5.
